as i see it, any resort you choose will take you a little bit out of your way if you are coming down the E15 from france as they are all at the end of local roads.
i personally would probably pick malgrat or santa sussannah as they are just off the motorway, but may be too far south for you.
tossa de mar would be another to look at.a small quietish town.
begur further north is , i believe a very beautiful little town, but may be too far from the motorway and you may get more information on that area from the other forum you posted on.

Thanks, we had a quick look at Begur but the hotels were lovely but quite expensive.

I have found the Hotel Riviera in Santa Susanna which has come back quite cheap, is this one any good?

if i remember this is on the border with malgrat and is a reasonable 3* hotel.
i find all these hotels much of a much, and so if you get a good deal it should not be a bad experience.
