Holiday plans ruined!
I just rang Kebabs & Curries and found that their last night is going to be 31st March, 4 days before we get to Goa!
Oh dear, I just heard from my landlord in Goa that the season is finishing very early this year.C'mon all you late March/early April holidaymakers - up to you to keep everything going. Have a great holiday,
There will be plenty of other choices .... a chance for everyone to go out & explore some more.
crikey just read this we are going mid-april for 2 weeks so hope some shops, restaurants and bars will be open
Can't believe they are closing before the Easter break. Lots of people go out for Easter. We did for the first 8/9 years.
They all opened again on the Saturday, I have no idea whether they opened on Easter Sunday??
OK here's the plan everybody start texting everybody they know out there telling them to stay open. Does anybody have Bobby's no from Bobby's Shack? I am going to text our taxi driver right now! Seems there are loads of us going in April - yikes we might not have enough taxis. I don't believe it!!!
Quite bizarrely I was on Candolim beach last Easter on Good Friday and the beach was packed.....but most of the shacks were closed for the day!!!
Given that Christians (mainly Catholic) are the second largest religious group in Goa, bizarre though it might seem to people in the UK, could it be that this was done out of respect for the most solemn day in the Christian calendar - one which is a fast day in many countries still? I don't regard myself as being that old but even I remember when it was standard practice for shops and restaurants to close on Good Friday in the UK too. Yes, non-religious families welcomed it as an opportunity for a family day out or a long weekend but it never used to be a case of 'business as usual', even if only a minority attended Mass or the vigil services.

yes everything seems earlier this year, when i ask why say it is the end of season, but there are still charters coming in i say to blank looks,only2 more night markets including today(sat here)but a lot of the traders said last week it was their last one, also a lot of the bars are scaling down,a lot of the entertainers being brits who have left or are going
Quoting the famous words of Kenneth Wolstenholme.
we get to Candolim on 11th april, does this mean that Ingoes and Mackies are finished by then? was looking forward to mooching round them from what i'm reading on this thread and another Goa forum there doesn't seem there will be much entertainment or shops open - will Chocalatti still be open in Candolim does anyone know please?
