Have stopped in this hotel 5 times and always ask for the Ocas as meal times not as busy. Always found hotel clean but when we stopped 2 years ago the food had gone down hill big time. The breakfasts are fine but the evening meal was not very good everything seem to be cooked in a funny tasting oil. Went in March last year and stopped at the Ambassador Playa and what a difference food was hot and the hotel had a more upmarket feel although same hotel rating just come back from the Calypso and that was even better.the pool at the Pelicanos is a big plus for this hotel but i do think it has gone down hill food wise from when we first stopped there in 1995.

Thanks for the reply Yorkshire. I was looking at the ambassador but its more expensive, ( can get free child place at the pelicanos). Is the food really bad ?? We wanna go for the pool for my son mainly, we do usually go all inclusive but its too expensive this yr. Would you recommend paying more to stay somewhere else, or do you reckon we just go and then if we dont like the food eat out..... im torn on what to do.. !!

Well, I'm booked in for late April and share the same concerns. We booked it because of the location, the price, the lovely looking pool and because one of my mates is dead keen to go to it, because of the 'benidorm' programme on telly.
What nearly put is off, is that there are loads of reviews around, and most of them are not very flattering about the food.
However, it's a calculated risk that we decided to take, it was a lot cheaper than the Ambassador (which we like) so we booked it, planning that we'll try the food, hope it's improved, but at least we'll get a quick brew and a snack in the morning, and probably find something to pick at later.
The good thing about Benidorm, is that there's loads of places to eat out, and we were always going to miss a meal or two at the hotel anyway, so that we could sample the delights of Marianos chicken, just down the road, the china gardens chinese and of course the tapas bars in the old town....

it'll be fine, whatever you choose, we're just going to make the best of whatever happens.

with so many bad reviews on the food though, you'd think the hotel would look to improve, hope it's soon. :tup
I'll post a review when I get back in May, I'm a fussy eater so I won't lie :yikes

Yeah i think im gunna risk it and get it booked, the pool looks ace. If the food isnt so good then no bother as its so cheap to eat out anyway. hope you enjoy....

I'm booked in for the 14th May (Spanish airport strike permitting)
It will be our 8th stay at this hotel 7 of which were at the Pelicanos and 1 at the Ocas.....I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal there so am quite shocked to find it's gone downhill....I will however reserve my judgement until my stay....
What exactly are peoples gripes...is it the quality of the food, the fact it's not hot enough, to crowded, not enough of it?
As I say there is always so much to chose from...if you pick something and don't like it then go back and pick something else......and there is always the freshly prepared pizza's...I could live on them for a week if I had to

Just got back today.
you just can't knock the location, the pool is obviously amongst the best, there seemed plenty of things going on, in and around the complex. We ended up in the Ocas, which shares things with the Pelicanos, but they have seperate restaurants.
so the food, is it really all that bad? I'd have to say no it isn't.
We went half board and there is plenty of choice, if being critical, it leans more towards the Spanish style of cooking.
breakfast was pretty much the norm, cereal and/or fruit, tea/coffee/juices, 'spanish' bacon, eggs done 3 ways, beans, mushrooms and rather bland but nonetheless palateble sausages- help yourself to toast, bread and salami type meats.

dinner was many things, pasta, pizza, stews, vegetables of all sorts, chicken, fish (swordfish in tomato sauce was especially nice) chips, etc, etc.
not of the very best quality, but I got by on it, and I think I'm fussy. 7 out of 10....just.

the staff were helpful and freindly and the early morning alarm call we needed today, was free and on time. rooms clean, showers good. all in all I would definitely go again, with less trepidation.
:cheers

Hi my friend is due to go this hotel in 2 weeks time ,she received an email this morning informing her of building work next door to hotel.
They have advised her if she wants to change accomadation she can do so without administration costs but will have to pay any extra costs incurred i.e hotel costing more.
Does she have any more rights or will she just have accept this.
Thanks

My daughter is staying at The Sol Pelicanos next week. I booked it for her through Travel Republic but haven't had any notification about any building work. Is it at The Rosamar?

Thank you for booking with Direct Holidays.
We write concerning your forthcoming holiday to Benidorm. As indicated in our booking conditions, building
work may happen, even in well established resorts and this is the reason for writing to you.
The information we have received from our overseas team is that a new development has started close to
the Sol Ocas/Pelicanos
Renovation work is taking place to the hotel adjacent to the Sol Ocas/Pelicanos. The work is currently
taking place within the hotel grounds to the outdoor areas. Due to the nature of the renovation noise and
visual disturbance will be experienced, particularly in areas within a close proximity of the works. The
hotelier remains committed to ensuring all guests have an enjoyable stay.
As we are sure you will understand, the nature of the building activity means the situation can change on
an almost daily basis. We can therefore only report on the situation as it currently exists. If, however, the
circumstances change to any great degree, you can be assured we will contact you again.
We remain confident that your chosen accommodation will continue to provide you with an enjoyable and
satisfying holiday and we are equally confident you will want to continue with your holiday plans. However,
it is only fair to remind you that, should you wish, you may change your accommodation without paying the
applicable administration fees (subject to availability and receiving or paying any difference in cost).
What do you need to do next?
If the holiday is no longer suitable to your requirements, subject to availability and payment of any
difference/reduction in cost, we will be able to search for further alternatives and amend the details of your
holiday.
If you wish to continue with your holiday, no action from you is required. Your tickets and invoice will be
sent to you in due course.
Should you require any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our Pre-Departure Services Team

Ahh ok thankyou for that.. It sounds like it's the building that started and never really got off the ground so to speak. The one facing the Sol Pelicanos and Ocas.. When we stayed there 4 years ago they had just started work and the noise from the piledriver was horrendous, we were at the front of the hotel and it woke us up at 8am everyday but you could also hear it for several hundred metres away.. it was so so noisy. I don't know the ins and outs of it but they didn't go any futher than the foundations. I wonder if it's all started up again..

Well she called them and asked about changing, all they could offer was either the Venus or the Calypso, but she would need to pay the extra which would result in her paying almost £1200 more, and was advised if she cancelled at this late stage she would lose all her money, so looks like shes stuck with the pelicanos.

it is the Rosaire,But work should have really been done by now.i guess it depends which side of hotel your on.on how bad is it.unless its done now.still had a lot of work to do in march when i went out.but 3 months they should have done the pool area.

Sorry I meant the Rosaire not the Rosamar, god I get all the "r" hotels mixed up.

The reason I thoght they meant the building over the road was because they said adjacent to the pelicnos and ocas. It's 2 years since the rosaire closed they have really taken their time.
