Lesvos is very beautiful and you should sea Agiassos village.
Have fun out there and maybe you can share your experience with us.
Malaka is quite right, public transport on Lesvos is not great. The exception is the bus route between Eftalou and Petra via Molyvos, this is a frequent and much used service. To make the most of Lesvos a car is needed. Agiassos is a must but the road through it is very steep. Your little front wheel drive car will will not make it in the wet if you have to stop!
As for taverna's in Skala Kalloni (and I have been to SK 8 times so far and am going again in June) try Medusa overlooking the harbour if you like a traditional fish restaurant...the fish virtually jumps from the harbour onto teh table! Ambrosia opposite the church is a first class traditional greek taverna(a lot of the local traders eat there when their shops are closed at night!) Iliotropio is a contemporary style pizzeria/traditional with a twist restaurant. The pizzas at the Paradise tavern (George and Penny own this)right on the seafront are ab fab!! Yianni who is a brill chef works at Omiros tavern (near the Kalloni 2 hotel). Phaedra on the square is a traditional family run restaurant to be highly recommended...but tell them when you order that you want your courses served separately or all the food will arrive at once! Mimi's also on the square has a large and regular Greek clientelle! Sampo restaurant is a nice place overlooking the sea and harbour. If you want more snack type food then there are two bars/taverns on the square Argo and Akti both serving good food.
If you look back at my other early posts there is much more information about the island and Skala Kalloni. (I wanted to post a link but wasn't sure how so just click on my name and past posts and it should bring the info up!)
Hope this is of some help....and have a fab time!
Kath
PS. Go and see Ron and Beryl who run the beach opposite the Kalloni 2 with free cool boxes, books, beach gear, childrens toys and anything else you could possibly wish for!!
PPS Where are you staying Janice?
