I've DIY'd many times to Spain/Canaries/Greece etc and managed to make some good savings.
However whenever I've looked into doing the same for the Caribbean, it's always worked out better booking a package.

Also, we recently got stuck in Tenerife due to the ash cloud and I was glad we'd booked a package for that particular holiday, as we were very well looked after by Thomson/First Choice.
