Most of the bars have a large amount of fans to keep people cool, can't imagine Air-c on would work very well in the open plan that most are built in. If they aren't switched on ask and I'm sure they will put them on...

I must say Steve when we were in Koko's it was unbearable. I liked in there and Madcaravanner told us it was 2-1 on shorts. When the pub was virtually empty it was fine, but when full as it was for the world cup final i felt quite faint (not due to the consumption of whisky i might add).
They did have 3 fans in the pub but was rubbish. It was also hot at the windmills also. Still went in there mind you, but felt like i needed another shower when getting back to the Pernera hotel :D

A few pubs have fans but all they're doing is blowing the air around, loads of places in Spain are excatly the same and are open plan but they have air con which works great.

I know, I know before you're waiting to come here you can't wait for the heat and think that you can cope with anything and enjoy it but when you get dressed in the evening and look like you have just stepped out of the swimming pool it's really not fun at all. Daytime is fine but nights are a total nightmare.

When you say dressing to go out, I take it the change of clothes isn't a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, yes it's hot but if you get out of the centre of Protaras you will find less crowded bars with plenty of room and fresh air, just an idea

We were not in the centre of Protaras anyway as we were at the Artemis, dressing to go out was a floaty maxi dress and sandals. I have since discovered that the temps were crazy last week anyway and well above the norm even for Cyprus which is of course a perfectly valid reason for such discomfort.

Sorry but in that kind of heat you need air conditioning and as I said Cyprus don't have air conditioning as standard it wasn't the case of it not being switched on it was the case that they don't have it anyway.

I actually like it been hot at night in Protaras, it reminds me i'm on holiday especially as i'm typing this now sat at home in August with the CENTRAL HEATING on and my fluffy dressing gown looking outside at the damp evening thinking it's winter. ENJOY the holiday sun while you can!!!! :sun2

This might be the oddest question I've posted ... "was the maxi dress a white background with large red flowers on it ?"... the reason I ask is my other half was wearing a short dress with much the same pattern and I spotted someone with a long dress on .. pointed out the long dress and was told its "a maxi dress".. A term I've never ever heard before ...(said person was wandering past the Windmills in Pernera the other day)

Next point.. about 2 weeks back it was unbearably hot both day and night... didn't matter where you were !... we went sight seeing from inside the airc.on'd car !... LOL

For those of you that dont know, I live here in Cyprus and it has been the hottest summer since 1955 with temps in the last two months regularly hitting 50 degrees and more. Through July and August it was averaging around 45 degrees for 6 weeks. To be fair fans wont do anything in those temperatures. I saw Kokos mentioned. My friend owns that bar and she has industrial sized fan in there but there is a limit to what fans can do when it gets as hot as it ha done this year. As for aircon, that only really works when you have all your doors shut which in Cyprus thats no good with the open plan bars.
Spain was mentioned but to be fair they dont get the temperatures we had in July and August.

Its now down to the mid thirties and is managable again.
