As most people agree, Chartered airline food isn't too great.
The flights to Goa always used to leave Gatwick early evening, but this year TXC are departing early morning. I usually pack some sarnies to take on the flight, but as this trip looks like it will need an overnight stay at one of the Gatwick hotels, can I ask my Goa for advice?
Do any of the hotels have a fridge / mini bar that I can put some food in?
What do you take with you to eat on board? I usually have some pringles, but they can make you thirsty. Any other suggestions for food which doesn't need to be kept cool, and won't get squashed?
I did try asking something along these lines on the flights forum, but all I got was people saying the food wasn't bad! Perhaps they hadn't been on a 10 hour flight!
Sandwiches, Mini pork pies or sausage rolls are good for a snack, they also sell small packs
of fresh fruit, nice and refreshing. Boots and WH Smith also do snacks, hope this helps as this
is what we get.

We use the M/S shop at gatwick also they do a good variety infact the airhostess's asked us last time if they could join us said it looked nice..
If you stay at a premier inn or travel lodge they dont usual have mini bars or fridges, If you do a search on lastminute or somewhere like that for gatwick hotels they will usually tell you in the room description if they have them, but in my experience most of these have limited room for your own supplies and if they are the electronic ones that charge you the minute you lift something out you cant really rearrange them.
As the other replies stated M and S do a good variety of snacks and also their salads and pastas are good was going to say they wont make you as thirsty as crisps but there was something on the news about their salads being full of salt the other day!! Also Boots meal deal is good value a Sandwich or Pasta/Salad and a small bag of fruit or crisps and a drink ( and if they are airside you can take your drink onboard) for 2.99.
Not sure about Gatwick but a few airports have a Greggs the Bakers now, they do breakfast rolls and a hot drink for 1.99 and are not bad..wouldnt recommend carrying any of their pasties on board though they squash very easy and do smell if they are warm, its not a bad smell but someone gets on my bus every morning with something from there and the smell can be a bit overpowering. They also do a large of range of sandwiches some better than others but very reasonably priced.
Take a small cool bag in your hand luggage,Asda have some for £1.50,it would probably keep sandwiches cool enough if you buy some just before boarding.
Just a thought ,brioche rolls, cheese straws, boxed cakes, scones to name a few,pop into a lunchbox so as not to get squashed.
(and at least no one felt they had to put me right and tell me the airline meals are delicious!!!)
Check out the Premier Inn for an overnight. It's only 350 yards to walk to the terminal I'm told and it's cheaper and much, much quicker than the bus !
I've stayed at the Premier Inn before, but we had day before check in, so only had to walk over with our hand luggage. I don't think Thomas Cook offer day before check in.
Won't there be problems trying to take drinks through check in?
You can take soft drinks on board if they are purchased airside.
When you get air side go to the water fountain and re-fill your bottle.
I have not travelled from Gatwick for a long time so if someone could verify there are drinkable water fountains in this airport - I know there are at Heathrow.
