I live and work in Gran Canaria, i work at a bar that provides karaoke to all nationalities and it has become very sucessful. all around the bars here in the Yumbo Centre are hotels so its mainly tourists that stay in the locality, that means people who have spent their hard earnt money to come on a holiday to enjoy themselves.
We have recently been visited by the local police and been told that we can not go above 40 decibels, to people who dont know how loud that is, talk to your partner or friend and guarenteed you will go above the 40 decibels that are being enforced on us! and i know its only amplified noise that is affected but even so you see what we are restricted to! what ever happened to choice? i mean i dont force people to visit the Yumbo Centre, i dont force people to come into the bar i work in, i dont even force people to visit Gran Canaria, and yes i do know that some people just hate loud music full stop, but equally so there are people who want to visit a vibrant place which has atmosphere, a place where there is NO trouble at all, just so they can enjoy themselves and have a fantastic holiday.
customers who have visited our bar have told us that they will not consider visiting Gran Canaria again as they are fed up with being in bars that are forced to close because they dared to 'entertain' so we will see over the next couple of years the impact the noise pollution law has on society as a whole, ie lost jobs, lost income from tourists etc, so what happened to our rights to have a job to survive in this world!! just because someone gets a head ache listening to music that goes over the legal decibel laws.
DONT come to the Yumbo Centre if you dont want to see a vibrant nightlife, go somewhere else and leave the people who want to enjoy their holiday watching drag shows, singing karaoke.
why should people force their views onto everyone else, when people who want to have fun dont force their views onto them, they just get on with their holiday and enjoy themselves.
Yes i totally understand people who live in the locality complaining about noise, i would myself, but as ive said earlier in my email we are surrounded by hotels with tourists who just want to have fun. so why should we be enforced with noise pollution laws?? or is it just that people who complain just hate people who do just that, have fun.
The above are my opinions (or am i not to have one anymore), just like soon i wont have a job and will have claim dole and live off people who are fortunate to have a job.
Soon we will have nowhere to visit, people will just not come and visit this lovely country, then locals will be unemployed they will have no future, and all because people dared to come here to enjoy themselves.
hear hear i totally agree with you i love the yumbo centre but if i didnt fancy a noisy night i would go elsewhere im looking to book for end of october will i see a big differnce ? last time i was there was march 2010. is the weather still nice and hot in october by the way ?
