Does anybody have suggestion on how to get a cheap flight to Australia if you have a relative out there that is very ill

Welcome onboard
The last minute booking of flights is always going to be at a premium. It's just the nature of air fares. Just shop around on airline websites, price comparison websites etc and see what the best deal you can find is. It'll be more than advance bookings wherever you look.
