wristbands for all inclusive

Hello, i apologise if this topic has already been asked, but i did do a search and couldn't find anything. maybe this should be in the 'boring and waste of time topics' thread

I have never been all inclusive, usually go bed and breakfast to Goa, or self catering to the med, but we are going to the dominican republic in April.

I'm worried that my son will take off his wristband during the holiday, as we have trouble trying to get him to keep it on when we go to theme parks for the day, so im not sure how i will manage for 17 nights.
Also, i can imagine the amount of germs and bacteria living in the wristband after a couple of weeks, why can't they just get rid of wristbands and give out cards, or even picture cards so they know who you are.

Finally, how can you avoid getting a strap mark on your wrist, it doesn't look very nice when you have lovely tanned arms, and a white mark where the wrist band has been??

Sorry if you think that these are silly questions, but i have never been all inclusive before, so i would like some advice.

I don't know if things have changed since we were there but wristbands weren't issued at the Merengue or mambo which didn't make much sense to me as if you were staying at the Bachata you had them :que

Seemed a bit odd, seeing that we could all use the facilities of the three hotels. We didn't have to produce anything to show we were staying there. I suppose since there are no other hotels in the viccinity adn the security so tight, if you happened to want a drink or a meal, you had to be staying there lol which made me wonder why the wristbands at the Bachata.

Things might have changed now as we were there a good few years ago- about 6 years maybe.

It's been a few years since we went to the DR but if I remember correctly we didn't have to wear wristbands as I presume all guests were AI.

We have stayed in the med for AI and a lady we got friendly with had a skin complaint and could not wear one so the hotel allowed her to just show the band when going to the restaurant and bar, so maybe thats another option, just explain when you arrive at the hotel, I can't see it being a problem.....Caz

I can't comment on a particular hotel, but wrist bands and germs shouldn't be a problem. It's no different than wearing a piece of jewelry and can easily be cleaned in the shower if you want to. Wrist bands aren't put on tight, you can have them as tight or as slack as you want them when issued at check-in. Again, just move them around like a piece of jewelry to avoid a strap mark. I've never had one yet due a wrist band! Some hotels use wrist bands, some don't. It's a question of security and entitlement so they need to issue something. In many places, wrist bands are favoured as they are cheaper to issue, hotels can have their own colours and logos on them that are favoured for security. Some hotels offer different packages, eg all inclusive, hull board so a wrist band is the easiest and most economical way of doing it. I can't say I've ever found wearing a wrist band an issue.

the times when we went AI which was to spain we had a swipe card , photo was taken as we were booking in and each time you wanted a drink then the card was swiped , the cards weren't needed at meal meal times tho, if the children lost there cards or they got wet (pockets in the swimmers) they were issued with new ones at no extra cost

I always get the wristband put on above my watch and then after a couple of days when the staff get to know you I remove it and pin it in my bag just in case they ask to see it.
Last year in a HB hotel we were given wristbands so people couldnt just walk into the restaurant off the beach.
I removed it after a few days and when the head waiter asked where it was I told him I was allergic to plastic! :rofl

We had a card this year and to be honest it was a pain compared to a band.

Take some small elastic bands, cut your wristband off with scissors and join the two cut halves with the elastic. That way you can easily take it of when you sunbath and when your in the shower/sleep as they do tend to scratch.

Getting a mark on my wrist is one of the reasons I would never go AI, I hate strap marks of any kind

I stayed at the Riu Mambo in May and we didn't haw wristbands, neither did guests staying at the Merengue. I can't remember if people wore them at the Bachata.

I always get them to put it on really loosely so that I can squeeze it off. I put it back on when I go to the bar.

Only ever went AI once. What was really funny was the teenagers who had to wear their soft drink only wrist band in the hotel but then turned it inside out (showing a white side) when they went into town boozing so they could lie about their age without the wrist band colour giving them away (as if the bar owners didn't know0!
