An Indian friend of mine recommended I read Holy Cow by Sarah McDonald before we go to India. It's the true story of an Australian journalist who moves to India and goes on a voyage of discovery. It doesn't specifically feature Goa, but it gives a good flavour of what India is like. My husband is reading it now (and he NEVER reads books I recommend) and he's thoroughly enjoying it too.
I've also ordered two books at the libraray Karma Cola and Chasing the Monsoon - both of which feature Goa.
Are there any other Indian/Goan inspired novels or tales you would recommend?
He's an escaped Australian prisoner and heroin addict and the first part of the book is supposed to be autobiographical- the second half doesn't quite match up to the first for me but it's an interesting and engrossing read.

If you do a search for the thread - Books on India recommendations, there are lot's of good reads mentioned, and where you can exchange and buy second hand books in Goa.
Shantaram is my favourite book! You either cry with laughing or cry with emotion! I love a good cry!!
