A lovely sunny day, around 16c. However, tonight it has poured with rain. Had very changeable weather over the past week, some very heavy rain, some beautiful sunny days around 17c, February is always the coldest month. Just checking emails before switching off for the night (we're 2 hours ahead of the UK) and to put a DVD on. Another 1/2 hr or so, so will try to think of some hotels and apartments. I know "where they are" but not always the name of the places.

If you do like the look of Amoopi, there are a few hotels there which are right on the beach. The Hotel Helios is one; can't think of the names of the others (I think a Golden Beach but could be wrong); we will be going there before the weekend (we look after friends garden while they are away) so will be back in the area by Saturday at the latest. If you get a taxi from Pigadia Port, it takes about 10 minutes. As I said with the studios, 3 lovely beaches, a few little mini markets and 1 or 2 buses per day (I think you said May, probably only 1) in and out of Pigadia, but a pretty short taxi journey if you want shops, or a night out. Will get back in touch by the weekend, but the Helios is worth a look on the internet.

Found some beach hotels in Amoopi. Right on the beach: GOLDEN BEACH and HELIOS HOTEL. Very near the beach: VOTSALAKIA HOTEL and ARGO HOTEL. A minute or two's walk: BLUE SEA HOTEL. Someone has told us the SOFIA HOTEL is OK, but not too sure how near the beach it is. One lovely one in Amoopi is AEGEAN VILLAGE but might be a bit of a walk to the beach. Quite a few nice hotels in the area (all small) and studios, (such as Sunflower) but other than the ones I have listed they are all uphill on the way back from the beach. Amoopi is not the most spectacular area of Karpathos, but the beaches are good and the sea clear. There are some of the above mentioned that have websites: Helios, Votsalakia, Argo, and I think Sofia. If you look at the Blue Sea Hotel, note there is also a Blue Bay Hotel on Karpathos, (in Pigadia) but that one came up when I looked on the internet, as well as the Blue Sea. Aegean Village is also on the internet. Hope this is of help. Lovely and sunny today, but a strong wind this afternoon. Can't wait for summer (or even spring)!!

hello again. finally managed to tie up ferries etc and have chosen the Votsalakia Beach Hotel arriving 27th May and staying (longer than anticipated) until 6th June. really looking forward to it an see how jealous of you we are!! thanks for all your help and suggestions. There will be an ouzo or two waiting for you

Good to hear that. I am off to England and Channel Islands (and Rodos!) after Easter, so will be back in touch early May no doubt.

Just received our copy of the Sunvil Greece brochure for 2011 and they are now featuring Karpathos.

Not good news for us!!! I have tried to get the Sunvil brochure up on the Internet, but I must only be able to receive the 2010 one, as Karpathos is not mentioned. Will try again over Christmas.
