OMG we must be sad. We normally hire private apartments and always look for sky tv included. It's prob cos we don't go out every night so we'll stay in with a drink and a carry out and watch a film. Mind you. When were abroad we always hire a car and spend all day touring about visiting different places, beaches etc so by the time we get in we can't be bothered getting ready to go out. And if we do go out then it's always a late one :cheers So have to spend the day round the apartment balcony to recover so the TV comes in handy then if you want to cool off or 'rest'. ;)

I like a TV as well. Especially if its got a film channel. I am not an early to bed person, so if I went back to the room at 11pm or even midnight I would still probably put a film on whilst in bed. Also if my teen son is about of my husband and there is any international football about or other major sporting events, they would be interested in having one. I wouldn't watch Corrie though or all the other carp I watch at home. lol :rofl Good topic madmadge :tup dont think we have had this one before its interesting seeing how others feel on this.

In hotels I like to have a TV for the news whch I will have on perhaps first thing in the morning, or while getting ready to go out in the evening. When I am in a villa I never bother watching TV even for the news - not sure why that is! Having a TV isn't a deal breaker for me - it doesn't matter if I don't have one when I'm away.

It depends where we are!

We spent a week in Luxor, Egypt last September and never switched the TV on once during that time and they had the same satellite system as we subscribe to here in Cyprus (an Arab satellite). Friends who were with us watched theirs though....

In Malta, we do tend to watch the TV of an evening when we are there but we go in February and are often back indoors fairly early of an evening and we watch it late afternoon/early evening before we go out to eat.

Sometimes we go and stay a night or two in a local hotel in Cyprus and we may try to catch up on the news or if they have some kind of a Sky package, may see if there are any UK programmes we might fancy watching.

Based on my responses, I think the weather dictates if we will watch tv or not :)

I must be sad too Glynis as I do like to have a TV in the room, my holidays are very active during the day, and often evenings are spent just chilling out in the apartment so it's nice to have something to watch.
Practically all of the hotels on my long haul holidays will have a TV in the room and one holiday when I was on my own and stranded in Bangkok due to the airport being closed down by protestors I found out far more about the situation by watching the international news channels than ringing the airlines. Another time I really liked having a TV in the room was in September 1991 in France when we watched a football match, England beat Germany 5-1. Even though I only speak a small amount of French I understood enough of the commentary to know what was happening. I would have hated to miss that :clap

We never switch a tv on or buy a paper when we are on holiday other than if unusual weather makes us have a look.We had a text from home that told us there was an ash problem the day we were due to leave that was a bit of a shock

In a way though Shrimper it was better not to know. You couldn't do anything about it and you enjoyed your holiday in blissful ignorance! :tup

We Don't bother in Europe with TV but do put it on whilst we have a snooze on holiday in the caribbean if it can pick up any US news channels.

I do like my telly at home, sad I know!

On holiday, don't tend to bother so much but will occasionally watch Sky News. On my last holiday, I did find an obscure music channel with lots of 80's music that I enjoyed while I got ready to go out

tv in your room with aa the english channels

That would be a real novelty for me, I don't even have any English channels at home! Since moving to Greece we have decided not to have satellite, so we only have the basic Greek channels. I am sure you can all manage without for a week or 2, after more than 4 years I find we don't actually miss it. There are some UK progs shown on the Greek channels & plenty of films for when we need to hear something we fully understand!

If it is a Summer relaxation type holiday then I enjoy not having a TV. If it is something like a city break then a TV can be useful just to get the news and weather in the morning. US TV is so bland it isn't really worth watching, it is even worse than British TV!

Not been on holiday before where is no TV, but to be honest not bothered about Channels, I do switch on the TV and watch the News and for some reason there is usually the Discovery Channel and it's usually about crocogaters, and yep I watch it :rofl

having a tv is a must for me.
i am a news junkie and want to know whats going on in the world.
i watch the spanish news in the morning and check the weather forecast. when i'm away i plan what i will do according to the weather, and as i travel all year, not just in the height of summer this can be fairly important.i cant see any point in trekking round somewhere today in the rain if tomorrow will be dry.
i dont stay in to watch tv, never watch the soaps, but will watch football sometimes if it is not on in one of the bars i use.
i like to have a british tv channel to also get the british news, and when i do a review of a hotel i normally include the british channels available.

I have no interest in watching tv on holiday! If we were to have a tv I wouldn't watch it, although my husband does like to watch the Turkish tv when we are in Turkey even though he has it at home anyway!! I don't mind having it on for some music in the background though. I never buy a newspaper either so I have no idea what is going on back home.

We find having a tv quite useful for checking local weather forecasts as they help us decide what to do that day. The webcam tv channels of the tops of mountains that you get in Austria are particularly good for this. Other than that it's always nice to have a couple of English language channels or MTV to watch when we are getting ready for dinner or if the weather is bad and we don't want to go out. That said, we've also been to a lot of places without a tv and managed fine. So I guess it's just a case of using it if it's there!
