I will be traveling to LA in June and renting a car for a few days while there, could anyone tell me what the process is at LAX, do you get on a bus and travel somewhere nearby to pick your car up? I'm thinking of hiring from Avis...

It was a short bus trip when I was there a couple of years ago.
Yes, all of the car rental places have busses to and from the airport. You may need to call them to request a pickup when you get there (like long term parking shuttles), but I'm not 100% sure. They may just have a regular schedule, e.g. a bus every 10 minutes. I would suggest phoning Avis to double check. All of the car rental places are close to the airport so it's only a 5-10 minute ride on the bus.
