Hi, can anyone recommend the ashvem trip and if so who/where from. how much and what days are best

Asvem, you could always try

as they do a few trips (I know them as I did their website for them last year)
or you coulkd just get a bus or hire as bike (depends where you're traveling from). Goa itself isn't huge so most places are easily accessable and the bus service is generally good, although sometimes crowded but VERY VERY CHEAP! :o)

The taxi to Ashven Beach will cost you 800 rupees for the retrun journey. we stay at a place called Rock Bites (very nice indeed) where the huts are 450 rupees per night for an en suite.

You mean mandrem beach?
So it is just a different name for Mandrem, look at this map

I think its between them Martin.
It is between Mandorim (Mandrem) and Morjim.
If you reach the lagoon at Mandorim then you've gone too far. Simplest way I've found to get there is to head for Morjim and take a right just before you hit the coast. It is sign posted.
I think you can also go through Morjim and keep heading up the coast.
If you try to get to it from the new main road then it gets tricky, lots of dirt tracks to navigate and no sign posts.
