Has anybody been able to book a holiday through their dedicated website, which is a offshoot of Thomas Cook ?
When I tried a few days ago, the overall price quoted had automatically added on three "options" - none of which we want - and they could not be removed online.
1. Choose Your Seat @ £30
2. Extra Luggage @ £30
3. In Flight Meals @ £24
In order to get the £84 taken off I had to ring the call centre and book over the 'phone.
If you book the same holiday through Thomas Cook's regular website, these extras are optional - and the total price without extras is LESS than the M&S Travel Club online "discounted" cost before the £84 is off.
In fact, the M&S price, less the add ons, is not that much below TC web price.
The cynic in me reckons this is simply Thomas Cook trying to get customers to call the 0845 call centre at 10p a minute !!!
The M&S Travel Club is obviously a twin to the HSBC Travel Club - M&S Money, of which it is a part, is an HSBC undertaking.
The one benefit of this Travel Club, other than the modest saving on the holiday, is that there are no credit card charges using the M&S CC.
For the record, Thomas Cook have since tweaked their online booking system so that the Choose Your Seat and In Flight Meals options can be removed by the customer.
The Extra Luggage add on is still mandatory, unless you 'phone the call centre to have it taken off.
Now they also list Fuel Supplement as an extra, previously it was (as far as I could determine) included in the basic package price. Obviously that is non deductable.
I contacted TC to enquire as to why the Extra Luggage had not been removed as default setting and they advised me that Marks and Spencer are to have an input on that decision - which makes no sense to me at all.
M&S had already advised me that they have no control over the workings of the website.
