Once I'm on my way to airport it takes a lot to wind me up as the long awaited holiday isn't far away now. I am a bit on edge that I've forgotten something to get me checked in (never have yet) but once we're through I relax. Don't particularly like the queues at security but it has to be done so I take it in my stride.

Once landed I'm a bit impatient to get off the plane and I don't like the bit when we're all standing in the aisle of the plane for ages waiting for the doors to open. Waiting for luggage is a bit of an anxious time but as soon as we've collected our cases and found our transport it's a great feeling. I don't usually book a resort that's more than about an hour away if I can help it so I just sit back and enjoy all the sights on route as we pass.

Ooh, I'm getting all excited just thinking about it.

Kazza...you would be a nightmare to travel with.. :rofl

I am one of these who is totally chilled out..but then again, just lately, it is always me that seems to get stopped for the extra search at the airport..they had me take belt off, shoes off etc..and when they picked me for the spread search and make me walk forward, I had to hold me trousers up to stop them falling down! I usually laugh at it all as I am relaxed. I dislike the queuing intensely..but I just see it as a necessary evil..and all them jobsworths who get on my nerves, well they are going home to thier sad little lives while I am going somewhere nice for a week, 2 weeks etc.
As long as people are polite to me, I really stay chilled.

The only thing that gets me is the boredom..when you have to check in 3 hours early etc...how many times can you wander round the airport before your flight takes off....

Rob tends to have a stress head on,,,,don't know why..think he is just impatient to be in the air and gone..

I like to people watch..so people like you Kazza would be highly interesting to me while I am sat watching the world go by in the airport..

Wish I was totally chilled out in real life and not jut when I am going on holiday..

I am with Val on this one. Love watching others like you stress out.

To me it is all part of the holiday procedure. Luckily I do not smoke so do not have to worry about legging it outside for a quick drag lololol. The only thing I had for once off the aeroplane is the toilets :rofl

I wouldnt say I get stressed, but I do get nervous and a little bit snappy at times but I think thats because I dont like flying (well taking off actually) rather than actual stress. I have the usual panics - money, tickets, passports and I like to get to the airport early so that there is a good chance we sit together (wont pay for seats together). Security doesnt bother me and we are all well practiced now in the routine but I do get a bit anxious while im being patted down and my bags are unattended on the xray belt :que. I cant sit still though and im up and down like a yoyo but I have learnt that if I slowly wander around departures choosing my magazines, bottled water etc instead of rushing, the time goes a lot more quickly. I cant eat though whilst hubby and daughter have been known to eat half of burger king at 5.30am in the morning :yikes A cup of tea is about all I can manage but once airborne, im starving.

Hubby on the other hand is very laid back over the whole thing so he does keep me fairly sane. The whole stress/nerves/snappiness disappears as soon as we are in the air and the plane has levelled off. Its like the haze of the previous 3 hours just disappears and then im as chilled as hubby is. Once landed I will wait until everyone else is off the plane before I get up, whats the point in rushing because the queue for the toilet will be 10 miles long and it always takes ages for the luggage to start coming through anyway so by the time we get to the carousels, they have just started moving. I suppose I do get a little anxious waiting for our cases to come through but once they are on the trolley the feeling goes again.

For some strange reason, I dont get so nervous coming home. Its just a case of getting on with it.

I confess to getting a wee bit stressed (ok, so the rest of the family would say more than a wee bit!) on the way to the airport. I think it's just worrying about any possible delays, etc, which might prevent us getting away. Once we're all checked in and so on, I'm fine.
But don't get me started on other passengers - I do like to people watch on holiday, but my idea of absolute bliss would be my own private jet, so I didn't have to put up with everyone else! It's all the getting up and down to go to the loo, fidgeting about, getting stuff in and out of the overhead lockers, putting their seats back and forth, getting up before the seatbelts signs go off, practically barging you out of the way on arrival so they can rush outside for their nicotine fix..I could go on and on.

I think what doesnt help me is my partner..he is a nightmare flyer..even at 4 am in the morning he rushes to the nearest bar in the airport to down a couple of jack daniels..he is a terrible nervous flyer, and even when on the plane Im all excited about taking off..he is quiet as a mouse im not even allowed to look at him..he hate take off and landing..but he still eats his flippin inflight meal...mind you..thats my fave thing on a plane the meal and a couple of glasses of wine...and on the way home..im even worse cos I dont know what im coming back too..weather, and the dreadful unpacking again..hate coming home.. But at the end of it..I love my holidays so much I put up with the stress of hanging around airports and as the above poster said..i would also like my own private jet..cos passengers especially ones that kick your seat behind you really get on my nerves or the numpty that decides to recline there seat when you have ur tray down in front of me without asking..pfffftttttttt hahahaha :rofl

My worst time before going to the airport is checking that all the plugs are switched off, windows and doors are locked and no dripping taps :tongue While we are waiting for the taxi i must check these at least 20 times although my OH says its more. Im a pain for for keep checking ive got passports, tickets, insurance and money as well. Even when the taxi pulls up i have to run around the house and check it all again :tongue Holidays are hard work!!! Then its the putting the suitcases in the taxi incase anyone sees us leaving. Thats the worse bit for me :que Once we are in the taxi and pulled away from the house-Bring on the holiday :sun2

I have to agree with everthing Lilly said because thats exactly what i am like :rofl I also hate the waiting around at the airport but i think is mainly because i am a smoker so i am constantly worrying about how am gonna get through the flight. Saying all that i cant wait for my holiday :hyper :hyper

I'll own up to being OCDish over things like passports and tickets whilst waiting for the taxi to come I'll check in my bag it's all there. Of course everything is there because I checked two minutes ago. I'm exactly the same in the taxi to the airport. It must be nerves or the uneasy feeling I have forgotten to do something :que I blame the Home Alone films and that drama series set in an airport, I think it was called Airport ?? and watched so many passengers turning up minus their passport :yikes mind you I don't think I could forget the kids :rofl

I had to laugh at Kazza's OP though, I know it wasn't meant to be funny but I read and thought 'yep I do that'. I enjoy looking at holidays, researching destinations etc and love getting excited about the whole 'getting away from it all' but boy it's a drama and half getting there. I travel from Birmingham airport and hate getting there hours earlier because you want to be one of the first to check in only to find everyone else had the same idea and you grimace as you join the queue! My main worry is one of the cases getting lost. I split our clothes equally into all the cases but I would hate to start the holiday off minus one, it would put me on such a downer.

I don't really fully relax until I am in the hotel room, had a quick check everything works; hot water, toilet, taps etc, get unpacked and find everything a 'place' and then, only then, can I finally relax and start to enjoy my holiday! :cheers

I don't like the few days before going....packing, washing everything in sight (why????), taking the cat to the cattery, cleaning the house (does anyone else do this just before they go?) and the usual checking passport, tickets etc. Love it when I've arrived at the airport and checked in! When on the plane, I just want to get going and get to my destination. By the way, is anyone else fed up of that precocious little girl on the Thomson safety video? If I see her once more....aagh!

On the day of returning home, I just want to get home asap and get unpacked, open the post and get back to normal. I always feel a bit of trepidation on turning the corner into my road in case something has happened to the house! Hate unpacking etc but after all that, once I know everything is ok at home, after a couple of days, I wish I was back on holiday again!!!

What i would like to know is how on earth they manage to lose a suitcase as some have ended up in other countries but a plane is not supposed to take off if there is luggage that cant be accounted for. Now how does that work :que

Not flying or anything, but I when I need my passport I'm forever making sure I have it :rofl That's it really.

Yep, guilty. Hubby says that the burglars wont appreciate it, so why do it? I probably get more stressed in the build up to going, what with the packing, cleaning, washing, changing all the bedding (have to have clean bedding to come too), throwing out food that wont keep, emptying bins, bleaching toilet/sinks etc etc...... so by the time I get to the airport, I have worked the stress out ;) am too tired to worry and need a holiday :sun2

Blimey glad I travelled alone in December and for my next trip :D

I confirm my taxi ride a couple of days before, I arrived at Manchester checked in within a few minutes I was through security and into departures within minutes and straight to one of the exec lounges - CHILL

Only stressful part of the trip is - have my bags made the flight and waiting for them to come round the carousel.

Yeah i've got ocd so constantly checking I have passport etc. Don't mind shorthaul flights 4ish hours hate the long ones. Am ok once checking in and can relax round the airport and look round. Again as someone mentioned dread losing my suitcase hate waiting at the carousel and only settle once in room and unpacked etc. :)

Hubby & I usually have a few words before we leave the house. I will have done literally everything beforehand, but on the morning, he is faffing around doing daft things - like deciding the car needs petrol, or the dog run needs washing - just anything to keep me waiting and get me stressed out. We'll have a lift coming in 15 mins, and he still won't have showered, then it's- have I put the shaving gear in, what about his belt e t.c. It's the same when we get to the airport. He waits until he's at the check in counter to get his passport out, and at security, he's hunting for loose change in his pockets, while the chap is standing there with the basket twiddling his thimbs - I'm sure he does it deliberately to wind me up :que I'm certainly ready for the bar after all that :cheers

:rofl :rofl Helen you've had me giggling at that post because I can just imagine him doing all that. My hubby is quite laid back and doesn't stress about a thing because he knows the little fairy would have done everything and packed all but the kitchen sink....and would I let him near any of our passports? :really No way!

Normally I dont stress and ignore hubby if he starts complaining.
I pretend I am not with him and often change seats with someone on the plane. :rofl
Tomorrow will be extra stressful as I am taking an extra bag for the Croissant Rouge( Red Cross)
I am meeting up with Aslemma and she got an extra 25kgs from BA for the Red Cross.
I asked Thomson if they would do the same, not in my wildest dreams did I think they would say yes,but they phoned Thomas Cook Airways as we are on a TC flight and they are giving us an extra 20kgs! :tup
Now the problem I am having is I cant find the spare old case I was going to take and have put the stuff in a large holdall which is on its last legs. :rofl
All I need now is at check in at 3am on Sunday morning is for them to say they have no record of this. :yikes
