I'm not generally a particularly fussy person but when it comes to pillows on holiday (both abroad and the uk) I am!! I'm not keen on putting my head on something that may not be clean. I've usually found hotels are ok (there's always someone to complain to) but sometimes sc not so good.
I've just bought 4 polypropylene pillow protectors for 99p in a certain shop where nothing costs more than 99p! They weigh next to nothing and would be ideal to pack in a suitcase in case the pillows are a bit dubious. At least they form a barrier between you and the pillow. Cheap enough even if you forgot to take them off before coming home.

Hi Pippa. That sounds brilliant. I am not a fussy person either, but there's something about hotel pillows that just make me squirm. I always have something between me and the pillow, sometimes a tee shirt or anything that is easy to wash so that sounds very good. Thanks for the tip 
Have just brought 2 pillows from Ikea at £1-32 they are rolled up quite tight and don't weigh alot, the only thing about protector's you have to look at the pillow when your putting them on.
Pippa! I would never ever look inside a pillowslip in a bed when away from home! I might just see something disgusting! I just usually lie something on top of the pillowslip. I especially would never ever look under a sheet at a mattress :yikes.
i do that plus i take 2 white pillow cases and use them, dont matter if i forget them there only cheap plain white ones 
We have a couple of quilted pillow protectors to put over the pillows. Sorted!
I take one of the cheap Ikea pillows with me too and a cheap pillowcase and just leave then when I return home.
Doesn't the chambermaid take them when they change the beds?
They have always done that with mine so don't bother now. I NEVER look at pillows or matresses now.............what the eye doesn't see....
