As it says was definitely an R & R holiday so not a great deal to report.
Anyway.....
Went with Qatar Airlines again this year, flight was on time and comfortable. The plane to Doha was an older one the entertainment wasnt working but never mind I had my faithful Kindle so sorted.
Second leg Doha to Goa was made up that the Kings Speech was available reallly enjoyed it.
Arrived on time and Arthur was there to greet us, luxurious cab, leather seats, air condioning bliss.
Got to Angelas Guest House around 4.30, kettle, water, coffee all waiting for us we are home!!!.
Sat up to watch the sun rise and everything and everyone waking up bliss. At 9.30 did our shop at Newtons, prices seem to have rocketed, nevertheless got what we needed so jumped in a taxi anf back home.
Dumped the shopping a quick shower then off to the Calamari, food was fantastic - their 'plain' rice is something special coupled with a lovely veg jalfreizi really hit the spot - OH had chicken tikka and really enjoyed it. Calamari became our daytime base for the next couple of weeks, never had a bad meal, mainly breakfast dishes, baguettes etc but always lovely and fresh.
We didnt do a great deal, b******** all really, went to Mandrem for the day, shack we were taken too was nothing special, sunbeds had seen better days but the walk along the beach was pleasant.
Restaurants - some good some not so good
Our favourites
Foxys Steak House - blimey what a find, thank you HTers, fabulous meal
Shivers - our apartment is next door so ideal. Lovely, lovely setting, food is fantastic, what it says on the menu though is what you get on the plate you need to ask for extra veg etc. ';My only niggle is their over attentive lady 'mein host' she means well and is doing her job but she is way over the top.
Tonys
Hurrah he now has a prime spot and every night queuing to come in. Yah fish chips and mushy peas and the extra touch 'would you like bread and butter' I almost asked for a mug of tea!!! Lovely fresh food really enjoyed it.We ate quite a few other places but this year these were the best -
Really enjoyed Jamablya, thanks for a couple of great nights Tom
The rubbish did get to me this year its a bloody disgrace, I am fed up of making excuses for them, its not a cheap holiday anymore and I dont want to wade through acres of garbage every day.
Many thanks for your report Roxey. Sounds like you had a good time - shame about the rubbish
Brilliant report , another thumbs up for Foxies steakhouse from me I really must look for Tony's place on my next visit , how long did you stay in Goa for Roxy ?
just a quick one....where is Foxies Steakhouse ?
On the road to the Highland Beach Hotel just a few yards up on the right , doesn't look anything from outside but steaks are lovely, the service always freindly.
Next question....where is Highland Beach Hotel...
Hi Noggin sorry , I should have made it clearer the HB hotel is off the main Road that runs through Candolim, very close to Newtons Supermarket and Bending Bamboos
I think i know where the area is....thanks
We were there for 18 days Shirley, I dont think we will go so late in the season again, I prefer December/January its a little cooler and not so humid.
The new pavements in Candolim are fun, I bet there have been more than a few twisted ankles this year.
We didnt have any problems with the taxi drivers, we paid 100 rupees to whichever part of Candolim we wanted to go, they were happy - we were happy. We did have one driver who insisted on serenading us in Portugese on our journey - he was hilarious, crazy driver though!!!!
It was good to see work finally started on the River Princess, lets hope she will be gone by next season. We weren't hassled at all by beach sellers, we did some business with the little family who run their shop outside the Calamari and I had a lovely Radley bag from one of the handbag sellers for about £20.
All in all it was another great holiday apart from the piles of rubbish all over the place. We will definitely go back again - its a way of life now.
Oh yes, one place I forgot to mention, Sweet Art just down the beach road next to Casa Seashell, gorgeous coffee and apple pie.
Hope everyone going out in the next few weeks has a great holiday
duh I just noticed the title of your trip report , I feel silly asking how long you were there for
Lots of people had enough of how filthy North Goa is getting.
You just know nothing will get done.
Papa
Went there on first night after reading reports on here and was badly let down.
Honeymoon couple on next table were likewise unimpressed.
Steaks at Gato Loco were far better.
Not just you. We were unimpressed withy our meal when we visited. Shows how personal restaurant reccomendations are.
Papa
What a shame both, our meal really was fantastic, the steak was excellent.
We ate at Foxy's 2 years ago, I had mushroom sauce with my steak.
