Just back from Nerja and hope this helps.

I have to use a small/medium size mobility scooter and can walk only a few yards.

We stayed at the hotel Balcon de Europa.

Good points:

The hotel is mainly accessable for most of what is needed except the small and only pool which has about 5 steps and the sun terrace round it also is on a raised platform.
We had a junior suite which was quite roomy and more than enough for my scooter but we looked at an ordinary double room which also seemed big enough. There were no hand rails except one on the wall for the over the bath shower but this was not a disabled room of which I understand there are 2 but I didn't look at them. Also be careful as some rooms have a step into the bathroom.
The breakfasts are good and varied with lots of choice.
Most of the staff are quite friendly and helpful.
The resort is a very prtty town and has lots of flat spaces. Lots of the pavements are wide and there are lots of drop down curbs. Even the older part of town is ok although the pavements are narrow - use the roads.
There are plenty of nice restaurants with pavements tables.

Bad points.

The swiming pool as above.
The lunch/evening food is poor value and not very appetising.
The beach has about 10 steps to get on it and it's small.
Most of the restaurants have a step to get in as do most shops.

We are planning to go there next month. Did you hire a scooter there or bring yours with you? If you hired one can you recommend a company?
The bathrooms sound a bit difficult. Often the baths in hotels are quite deep with slippery surfaces and so difficult to get out of. Was this the case here too? Will try and book a disabled room but we're booking a bit last minute and probably too late to secure one.

We have just returned from Nerja. It was full of people in wheelchairs, on sticks, scooters etc which is an indicator of how popular it's obviously become due to its accessibility. The areas with the restaurants, shops and bars was completely flat with well maintained paving. If you've mobility problems it's best to stay close to there (near church, townhall) which is totally pedestrianised rather than the far end which while pretty good compared to most resorts (ramped kerbs etc) didn't have everything on the doorstep as it were.
We stayed at the Balcon de Europa which was fine for the most part. As Brian said above the pool area on floor 5 wasn't very accessible but there were sunbeds on the ground floor too which were on a deck which meant you didn't have to go down the steps to the beach to sunbathe.
Staff were very helpful and rooms were spacious enough. Bathroom wasn't brilliant. There was a hand rail but it was still a bit difficult getting in and out as the glass shower door kind of blocked one end and the toilet the other. You don't want to be holding onto a glass door getting out. It would have been fine if the shower door was the same end as the toilet. Still it wasn't too deep which was a plus.
The Balcon or somewhere near it is the ideal location though. Really didn't have to go more than 300 yards from the hotel for anything.
Restaurants were accessible if you're sitting outside which most people were anyway. A few had ramps. Shops were half and half ramp-wise but most were kind of small inside so not much room for wheelchairs. Most had outside displays though so you can still shop :-)
Anyway we'll defintely be back. It was so stress free compared to most resorts. No dodging traffic etc and everything so close by.
