Personally I think it'd be cheaper to eat/drink in Hisaronu of an evening rather than in Olu as there are sooo many restaurants and competition that they are all vying to keep their prices lower than 'next door'.
If you can imagine a straight line......at one end is Olu Deniz (the beach area).....the extreme end is Fethye. Hisaronu is a very short distance, as I've said before, from Olu... like this..
Fethye ------------------------------------------------u----------Olu Deniz
Hisaronu (this should be where the 'u' is..but when I click submit it takes it to edge of page )
If that makes any sense? lol Fethye is about...20-25? minutes dolmus ride from Hisaronu - as you're nearing Hisaronu that stretch of road is Ovacik BUT is now getting so built up...including hotels up in the mountains that travel agents are NOW calling 'Ovacik' Hisaronu...which it is not! If ever you book a Hisaronu holiday MAKE CERTAIN you know EXACTLY where you will be staying..because if you are in one of the hotels at the back of the road up in the mountains you either have to depend on a free courtesy bus to get you into Hisaronu/Olu Deniz or pay for taxi - as normally the dolmus doesn't travel up that far. Whenever we've been I use the Hotel Orka as a 'point'. I ask first if the accommodation is IN Hisaronu? If not ...IS it in the mountains on the main road from Fethye to Hisaronu? If yes....then I ask WHICH side of the Orka is it?? Fethye side...or Hisaronu? Dolmus DO do this stretch of road as its the main road into Fethye BUT if you like to come back late of an evening the dolmus DO stop running at specified times throughout the season and then you'll have to taxi. However...if your hotel is HISARONU side of the Orka it is easy enough to walk back...about 20 minutes...PLUS they now have pavements as opposed to walking in the road as when we very first went there
Also although B&B's etc say 'breakfast'..remember this is normally a Turkish breakfast....toast/bread/jam and MAYBE every other day...a hard boiled egg! (when we'd knock on our son's door to say 'breakfast'....they'd shout back 'is it egg day?'...if it wasn't..they'd not bother getting up LOL!). Normally you'd have to pay for any extras.
Ebay have free listing today....I'm making the most of it myself
Why not use the deposit on a different holiday somewhere where they have local shops and supermarkets?
As others have said take a cool bag and some freezer packs. You can put some plastic plates, sandwich bags and cutlery in your hold case. Find out if there is a fruit and veg market nearby as that is where the cheaper food will be. Tomatoes, cucumbers, melons etc will be in season and so cheap. Bread isn't that expensive 75 kurus a loaf which will make 2 huge sandwiches. Turks who are low earners live on bread, cheese, eggs, yogurt, fruit and veg. Take some sachets of tuna with you and maybe some canned ham. Also take some packet soups and a flask. Coffee is expensive in supermarkets so bung a jar in your case with coffee mate and also some tea bags. Some shops sell whole cooked chickens at reasonable prices and you can keep some in the fridge for the next day. You can buy borek in food shops (kind of cheese pie) it is tasty, cheap and filling. If you can take bottled water into your hotel buy the biggest you can carry and decant it into small ones for drinking during the day. Take a plastic funnel with you. A friend of ours puts his gin or vodka from the duty free into a small water bottle and tops up his tonic water in bars - very naughty but there you go. As others have mentioned try to find a pide house as they are really nice and quite cheap. I really couldn't find many very Turkish food places in Olu Deniz it was all aimed at tourists but go up into the hills or over to Fethiye on the bus for better value places. Don't be scared to venture into side streets to find where the Turkish families eat. Hope you have a great time and you really don't need to spend a fortune.

Seconded
That is probably where you will find the big supermarkets that the locals use. Olu Deniz is our favourite place in turkey but has unfortunately got somewhat pricey of the last few years.
I still think you should be able to find plenty of way's to cut costs though if you are happy to take on board some of the great suggestions here.
Make sure you visit Kayakoy - a whole deserted Greek village. You won't have to pay to do this as a 'trip' - it's about 2 miles out the other side of Hisaronu - go up there late afternoon/early evening when it's not so hot. You can walk or take dolmus.
I have a list of things to get before we go for snacks whilst we are there, but I'm leaving it until nearer the time. Firstly to check the weight of luggage to see if there is the space for food, and secondly because I am still desperately hoping I will find a new job before then.
Not had any positive news on applications this week, in fact not heard anything back from anywhere. It's so depressing, I feel like I don't deserve this holiday at the minute and every time I think about it I feel sick.
However you might feel you really need to relax and in which case go and try not to worry. You would have spent money at home anyway....
aw lexilex i really feel for you i hope you have some good news soon xphx
I am sure something will come along but (and I hope you dont mind me saying this) but if the thought of the holiday is causing you so much stress would it not be better to try and postpone it until slightly later in the year when you might have found work or have saved a little more?

Unfortunately my partners work is quite fussy about holidays. They have to be booked three months ahead. He also works in a team and cannot have holidays at the same time as any other team members. If we postponed the holiday it would probably have to be to next Summer, which I am not sure they would even do. The only other thing would be to cancel.
Some days I look forward to it, it will be great to get away from this existance at the moment. I just feel like I don't deserve it because I am not working.
we went to hisonaru market on monday & to the bigger market in fethiye on tues, where we bought fresh salad stuff & fresh fruit,at very reasonable prices.
a large efes,is averaging 5 lira & local spirits 8 lira.
we tend to go out for breakfast & then just get a snack later on.i know you are B&B,so this won't affect you,but most place are charging 7 or 8 lira, apart from on the front, where the prices go up.
where are you staying?
the exchange rate has hit 2.51 today comission free,so check the rate at home,to see what the difference is.
unfortunately we are only here for a week, arrived sunday night very pleasant, mon, tues lovely, then wed, thurs & today rain, rain & more rain.the shops are doing a roaring trade in brolleys & hoodies.
thats the reason i am on the laptop,as we have decided to stay in,as its chilly, how sad is that!
anyway, good luck on the job front & stay positive,
tracy
get yourself up to Hakuna Matata bar in Hisaronu (just down side road on RHS where the Dragon something chinese is) ...great evening with Seggie & Co.
Alcohol prices seem to have gone up a little since we were last there, but that is to be expected I suppose.
Still no news on the job front, applied for a ridiculous amount of jobs this week, something has to come up soon.
We were at Oludeniz last year and yeah its a bit dearer than before but we had a good few decent priced meals. All day breakfasts which you could do for lunch were around £3.00. The indian up the side street does a brilliant set menu and the food is amazing for around 10 euros each. Also buzz bar at the beach do happy hour cocktails from i think 7-8 so you get two for the price of one. We saw lots of set menu prices too on the main strip. There were also lots of cocktail offers but some were really not good - at Buzz you get amazing cocktails and if you do it in happy hour then you will score. The supermarkets we used were not that cheap but Hisaranu is defo cheaper and you could go there and shop for sandwich stuff. Also there were some good day trips with lunch included. Feel really sorry for you as its so hard but you should manage if you look for the evening meal deals. Everyplace we ate was great. Hope you have a great holiday.x
Lexilex I hope you do go on your holiday, of course you deserve it and even more so at the moment. OK you may have to go carefully with the spending but you'd have to eat even if you didn't go. Just remember you don't need souveniers and other tat, you don't need OTT expensive meals (they only make you fat lol). In your luggage you don't need tons of clothes and you certainly don't need loads of new ones as no one will have seen your old ones and anyway you'll spend most of your time in beach wear. If you can keep your luggage weight down you'll have room for snack stuff and although I know you can get things there, there are far more bargains to be found in UK supermarkets these days and by being in your case it will be easy to get it into your hotel without anyone seeing. Someone mentioned going places on the bus, much cheaper than organised tours and much more of an adventure. Kaya Koyu is really worth a trip and also Fethiye. One thing I would warn you about is the really high charge for beach beds and parasols on the beach. If you want to sit on the beach take your own mats. I hope you have a wonderful time, it will recharge your batteries ready to start that new job that you will eventually get.
As some of the others have said you would still need to buy food even if you were at home, if you are careful and bidget yourself you will be fine. Go and enjoy it
One tip I don't think has been mentioned - loads of people are skint this year, so try asking around and you will probably get lots of advice about cheapest places and bargains from people already there. If you are taking coffee etc, decant into plastic containers, much lighter, and don't forget mugs and teaspoons, and check to see if you need a couple of plastic plates and a knife in your room or if they are supplied.
Take half the amount of clothes you think you will need and a tube of "Holiday Wash" or even extra toilet soap. Who is going to notice how often you wear your clothes so long as they are clean? This will leave more room in your baggage for food essentials. If you are going to the market, go later in the day(more bargains) choose your own produce and haggle. Eat all the "Tasters" you are offered- sesame nuts, cashews, fruit cheese - not filling, but might stop you buying just because you fancy a small bit..Bread is cheaper in the local bakery, and they quite often sell their own pasty-type things as well, very tasty.Buy a large container of water and fill smaller bottles from this to keep in the fridge for when you go out. Reading back over these I feel like a right Scrooge, but since we are retired we are on a permanent budget and these tips help us. Most of all - look upon scrimping as a game, and have a good laugh about it. Good luck on the job hunt, and keep us posted with any news.
What about packets of 'wraps' to make sandwiches. I brought a pack at the weekend and noticed that best before date is ages away so you could easily take a few packs for lunches. In fact I might even take some with me on our hols as my little girl loves them for lunch with some tuna.
What about cuppa soups which you can get from the pound shop. Cereal bars to snack on, supernoodles ( I'm not too keen but my son loves them).
Eat where the locals eat, or food stalls, rather than in expensive restaurants.
You could pack a few packets of biscuits, even things like supermarket own brand if you're really struggling.
As people have already said, if you didnt go on holiday you would still need to spend money on food shopping at home for the duration, petrol costs, so you won't be spending much more if you go on holiday and stick to cheap meal ideas.
How about one day you eat out at a cheap restaurant and look out for set menus, then the next day just make something in your hotel.
Its usually cheaper to eat lunch, so if you can, eat a massive lunch, then just have a snack for your evening meal
