Incase any of you didn't know, you can use google maps to create your own customized maps with your chosen locations marked, with options to add captions/info etc. I did this for one of my previous trips and it was very helpful when needing to decide where to go and judging how far things are from other locations.
I currently have my hotel, the Sousse Medina, Friguia Animal Park and our airport marked down and it's also obvious where the beach and closest towns are. I would like to mark down locations of any 'must-do' activities too. I'm going to visit the Catacombes in Sousse although I couldn't find it on the map. 2 other things I really want to do is get a massage - more traditionally associated with Thalassotherapy in Tunisia I believe, and a haircut as someone else has recommended this to me and said that it's fairly cheap too.. plus I need one Has anyone encountered/experienced either in the Sousse/Monistir area?
I mentioned in my other post that we don't have a lot of spending money for this holiday as it's all inclusive, so we aren't planning on doing much other than eat, drink and sunbathe at the hotel and beach but it would be nice to squeeze in a few low cost things too, as well as maybe one or two more expensive things so any suggestions are welcome.. I don't think any of us are overly interested in historic sights so one or two will suffice.. we prefer thrills.
I also have a question about transport. We are located in Skanes, pretty much in the middle of Monistir and Scousse so can anyone tell me if there are many transport links? Are taxis readily available to book and are there many bus stops along the coat line? I hope so because car hire would be expensive it seems..
Thanks!
I have been to Skanes twice, Sahara Beach Hotel. You can get to Monastir by noddy train, horsedrawn carriage or taxi and Sousse by taxi, agree the price before you get in. We have also gone by taxi to Port el Khantoui. Have a lovely holiday
Despite being an historical site, the mausoleum of the first president, Habib Bourghiba at Monastir is absolutely beautiful and as it's only just down the road from you well worth a visit. As Yvonne says, always 'negotiate' with taxi drivers - 'Ghali barcha' means 'too expensive'. You may like to take a trip on one of the pirate boats, which certainly go out from Sousse and PEK (not sure about Skanes). It will be cheaper to book direct rather than through your hotel. It is a half-day trip, with food and non-alcoholic drinks provided and they anchor up so you can fish or swim from the boat. Sometimes they also have entertainment on board. As always, the key word is 'negotiate' regarding price.
I would agree with Aslemma about a visit to the mausoleum of the first president, Habib Bourghiba, Monastir is nice for a visit and a wonder around.
