I made the mistake of failing to read the small print

I'm a bit confused by the details of your post but legally it's only a c on or a f raud if they hadn't included any conditions applying to such deals. So, yes, as you warn, people do need to make sure that they read all the T&Cs but something along the lines of 'this offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer' is pretty standard for all hotel special offers and you need to decide which is the cheapest one for what you want.

:que But what I really want to know is with an intinarary like that just how much of the UK did you actually see as oppose to drive through in only 9 days? That's an average of 200+ miles per day which up here in Scotland, and especially once you were north of Aberdeen until you got back to the Glasgow area, would have been on non-dual carriageway roads. It must have been exhausting doing all that driving!

I suspect this offer is aimed at attracting more business travellers who don't book far in advance so don't get the discounted rates. Quite a few hotel chains do this, the business person claims the business stay costs back on expenses from employer and gets a free night to use later on a leisure trip. Probably fills the company car up at a Tesco garage and claims the Clubcard points as well!!

As you've now found out, always read the small print, like they say in Yorkshire, you don't get owt for nowt.

As for the itinery, I can understand the high mileage if it was an interesting car and that was the point of driving, but it would have made for a better experience if you'd used local B&Bs and pubs. In fact that would have made quite a good article for a weekend newspaper travel section (better still, an American newspaper). Did you ever wake up and not be able to remember which Premier you were in?
