Hi everyone, Is anyone familiar with the area of Gran Alacant ? We needed a week away and on a budget got good flight prices and a nice apartment through Owners Direct in this region (we have stayed in similar at San Fulgencio before)
We did some research before plumping for GA and it seems 'similar' to San Fulgencio, with limited bars/restaurants, which is fine for us.
Not going 'till October 8th and not expecting blazing sun (if it rains - so be it.. we are away from home/work) !!
Address is Alto Mar 2, Gran Alacant, Santa Pola.
Are we in Gran Alacant or Santa Pola ?
Taxi price from airport ?
Anything else about the area, getting around (not bothering with a car) would be great help.
Cheers, Spike.
But I think Gran Alacant is the region
Santa Pola is the town
I've driven through it I'm sure, can't tell you much else though.
You might be surprised at the weather!
we went to Benidorm Oct/Nov it was quite warm and didn't rain at all!
I would guess a taxi would be around €15-€18 ( based on the distance and what I pay in the CDS, including the airport supplement)
Lots of info on the link below, including info of the local bus which runs on a circular route around Gran Alacant itself.

You will be within easy walking distance of bus stops, tourist land train stop and a selection of bars and restaurants. There are some 60 to 70 bars and restaurants in Gran Alacant with Mercadona, Consum, Supervalu, Maxcoop, Lidl and Aldi supermarkets. The nearest supermarkets to Altomar 2 are the two Maxcoops and both are open Sunday mornings.

Brilliant info - cheers everyone !!
Looking at various villa/apartment rentals and the options are narrowed down to the Monte y Mar area (lower or upper). Would any experts in the area have views on these areas and which is best or any alternative ideas?
We would like somewhere in easy walking distance of supermarket and restaurants and shops. Don't intend car hire at this stage.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
We have just booked to go back in September to the same apartment in Alto Mar 2. A lot of people call the whole area a concrete jungle, and in a way they are right.
All of Gran Alacant is split in to zones and are all similar with an area called a square, where you will find various restaurants and bars, not loads but enough to enjoy somewhere each evening. Bars and restaurants are also found dotted along most roads.
Don't know if you are going for a private pool, but if not every place seems to have key access to communal pool use.
Monte y Mar is further down from where we stayed (away from the sea) and not too far from the Commercial center, with big supermarkets/bars/restaurants etc.
Everywhere seems to be decent whatever you go for, we enjoyed a good curry at a place called Safron at Monte y Mar.
Can't really see you walking from there to the beach for the day, but there is a land train every hour and buses from the commercial center.
Weighing it up for you, my choice would be Alto Mar 2 more choice of bars/restaurants, easier walk down to the beach (but not back !! it's known as cardiac hill).
Anything further, just ask - I'm checking things out, as we missed a a few things last time.
