Hi Just thought I would relate our experiences in our recent Greek Island Hopping holiday.
As it was my OH BIG birthday, and having holidayed in about 15 greek island/mainland resorts over the last 20 years or more. I thought something special and a surprise was required, so, after some investigating I contacted Greek Sun Holidays. They were very helpfull right from the start, suggesting various options regarding airports, islands etc. I chose to fly from Manchester as it's quite local (1hours drive) and there a few options regarding Islands. Having chosen the islands and accomodation, I again contacted Greek Sun who quickly worked out an itinerary and a price.
I managed to keep it all a secret until the last week before, not easy!!
The islands I chose were Mykonos, Tinos and Syros. We flew to Mykonos on Thomson, nice flight time and good flight with no delays, upon landing we were escorted to the ferry terminal and boarded the fasr ferry to Tinos for our first 5 night stay. I had chosen the Onar Hotel on a B&B basis, and we were really surprised at the sheer quality of the hotel, excellent, the staff also were super. Tinos town where we were based is quite a busy working town and was vary religous with many pilgrims there, that did not in any way affect our stay and found Tinos island to be very diverse away from the main town. A super start to our holiday. Day 6 found us on the ferry to Syros, where we were based at the Sea Colours Appartments and studios on S/C, the hotel was a converted venitian house (large) and was in an unbelievable position overlooking the bay. Syros again was quite diverse and we used local transport to journey around the island. Again a most enjoyable stay. Our final island was Mykonos, I had chosen the Hotel Madalena, again a very high quality hotel with outstanding views over the harbour. Mykonos was, I have to say the most expensive Greek island we have ever been on, due I think to the number of very large cruise ships, never less than 2 and up to 4 on ocacasions, all full of rich Americans and lots of Orientals and Germans etc. but still very enjoyable.
I can say in all honesty that the hotels were the best we have ever stopped in anywher we have holidayed, Greece, Spain, Italy, France, the Canaries even the USA.
A most enjoyable experience and I hope I have not bored you with this, but it really was an unforgettable experience.
Tony
Tony - that sounds like a wonderful trip. Mykonos was on my agenda for last year, but when I read about the prices, it put us off somewhat. Glad you enjoyed
I like the sound of that trip Tony. I wouldn't mind doing a bit of island hopping if I had a bit of spare cash
Yes, it was a "special" holiday, and unless we come up on the lottery , it will not be repeated. I/we spent much much more than we usually do on a holiday, but, it was a special occasion. I managed to take over 100 photos so we can look back and remember ahhhh.
Hi Tony, will you be uploading some of your photos to the media gallery here on HT? I'd love to see them
You did a similar trip to us this summer. We flew into Athens, ferry to Andros, then Tinos, Kythnos & Syros. We did it over 3 weeks, with two kids (Age 4 and 1) and spent a fortune, despite always staying in studios.
It was brilliant, Kythnos has a special place in our hearts. I would do it again a the drop of a hat, but it is expensive.
