I don't like it either - it is really winding me up now!
I have also had this feature 'pop up'. I'd really like to see it either disappear as a decision taken by the software team or by giving me an icon to click on so it goes away. It does nothing positive for the site.

Glad that little gritter is gone, but the pages are 'freeezing' on loading at the moment (for me) .
