You have entered into a contract when you made the booking. When you did so you should have been supplied with a copy of the Terms & Conditions which would give details of charges that would apply in case on cancellation. Whilst you booked through an agent you do not say who or which airline the flights are booked with. Can you tell us the name of the airline and destination? We will then try to assist you further.

Thank you for your reply...the name of the airline is Virgin although we booked through Charter Travel and we are flying to Orlnado in September 2012...regards Laurie
Is this definately flight only? Virgin Atlantic's T&Cs do mention an admin charge on cancellations (but not how much) but there is no mention of deposits. It isn't very usual for airlines to accept confirmed reservations without full payment.
Charter Travel do take deposits on VS flights, and their terms and conditions do state that if you cancel your booking before your balance due date you will forfeit your deposit and must pay £90 per person cancellation charge.
Found it now, and it is very clear.
