Hi to one and all.
I have just arrived back from a one week all inclusive staying at the rui tikida palmeraie, the hotel was lovely, very clean, the staff were also very nice and helpful, the gardens in the hotel were wonderful and well maintained, the food was nice and lots of it but after a while it became same old, same old, but all in all good.
There was a free shuttle bus from the hotel in to the old square at regular time through the day and night (last bus back 8pm) but you could always get a cab back for 100Dh-150Dh.
The old square its self is where everybody goes, and why not, thats where the souks are, the snake charmers and all the stalls of course, you can sit drink tea (NO ALCOHOL) and look down on the market square from the cafe around the square, this sometimes is the best place to be, because it can get busy down there & you do get pestered to buy or have your picture taken with a snake or monkey(more on that later).
The La Koutoubia is the largest mosguee and the bus always drops you here, it is also a good place to get your bearing, (one little tip, if you go into the souks and stroll around the stalls, you may loose your bearings, well fear not because all the satallite dishes all point to the La koutoubia Mosquee, so just follow the dishes ,,,you will get a young man telling you that you're going the wrong way, he will then show you the way to the square even if you haven't asked for his kind help, but he isn't doing it in kindness, he will want paying for his services,,, even if you're going the correct way, they may still say "you're going the wrong way".
Their are people with monkeys on chains, this looks cruel and it is, they will try to put a monkey on your shoulder for a picture and of course payment.
The sake charmers are the same, but whether the cruelty is the same, I'm not sure,,what I do know,if you do have your picture taken with the snakes they will ask for money, around 500Dh=£40 .Make sure you have change in your pocket, I made sure I had 20Dh=£1.80 and said that was all the money I had on me, they may call you a few names, but these guys will take you to the cleaners if they could and £40 for a few pictures is a lot to loose.
At night time the square changes, the foods stalls come out and if you want to eat there, then there are some lovely meals to be had, but if you just fancy a walk through to take a look, then all you will get is menu's waved in your face, and it can be every unpleasant, but the night square is a must, it does come alive at night.
Just remember, if you buys something from the stalls, haggle is the key word, if the starting price is say 300Dh then you come back with 80Dh , you both will meet in the middle somewhere.
Over all we had a great time, some great picture, nice food and the weather was around 23-25 in the daytime, but turned quite cold at night
Well I hope this helps someboby.
