Basically you are allowed up to 3ltres of spirits duty free on EACH passport as long as you visit the shop within the first 48hrs of arriving in Luxor
. Obviously I wouldn,t be getting all my allowance because I would never be sober in the fortnight we are there haUsually this allows my wife to get two bottles of Baileys at uk airport and I just get a bottle of whiskey later in resort...
However this is no longer the case, as we were turned away from the duty free shop after being told ;
"the government have stopped it from this week" (23rd Dec)
You can still buy duty free at the airport on arrival at Luxor just not at the shop.
Wifey wasn,t too pleased when I helped her finish her Baileys ha
There is however an offlicence over by the big market that sells all sorts of alcohol should you need it.
English duty free whisky has been known to be for sale here, but at a high price = £35 ltr Bells
Needless to say I didnt buy that but I did get a passable bottle of Egyptian bottled "english" whisky for about £15
An ex-pat I spoke to said the manager at duty free had been caught on the fiddle and that was why its not in use but, i,m not so sure it could all be a part of "The New Egypt" thats coming.
Gaz
, but the term "English Whisky" was the vendors name for it, I did buy an English style whisky that was bottled in Egypt and it was 40% proof too, called Auld Stag. Quite passable..
