A lot of them were very adamant lizzy that they wouldn't be back. Was reading a bit in Navhind Times this morning about how the amount of foreign tourists has halved since 2006. In 2006 there were just over 38000 tourists and in 2010 that figure was a shade over 19000!!! That's a fair drop in just 4 years!!!

I would hazard a guess that of the 38,000, the majority would have been from the UK, now the number from 2010 of 19,000, the majority of those tourists would be from Russia. So the loss of UK tourists over the last four years is likely more than 50%. Their are many reasons for this huge drop in numbers, but Indias love of regulations which negate on their tourist customers, such as visas, 10 sunbed rule, alchol bans and such like, certainly contribute to it

It doesn't feel to me like the number of foreign tourists has halved - seems to me it gets busier & busier each year

You have got to be joking this season has been pretty dead for Uk tourists, maybe more Russians. It's quite busy now,but November and December there were very few foreigners.

Speaking to a couple of shop keepers in Margao today and they told me that November and December were very bad for business but things are picking up. I suppose the recession doesn't help and Russia seems to be doing ok, most of the tourists we've bumped into have been Russian with the odd Brit around.

Not been yet this season so I can only comment on previous years but I honestly haven't noticed fewer tourists, British or otherwise. Quite the opposite infact. Flights seem to be just as rammed as do the London visas centres - maybe its because we've only been going in Feb of late (rather than Nov & Feb).

It'll be interesting to see whats going on when we get out there on the 23rd.

was pretty quiet when I went in November, we are going on Saturday only for a week there were a lot of russians in November they seem to have taken over certain shacks and they were very noisy

Such stupid rules and regulations. Glad I am not going February/early March time :think
Does anyone know how often the elections occur? I was going to book for January/February next year, but I wont be doing it if this silly law is in place.
