Who are Robbinair and where are they based?
Interail do passes not sure if these are worth using for travel to Benidorm.
I had friends who used to travel everywhere by train but he did work for the rail company and he got free travel.
I consistanly travelled from England to the Malaga area by train & ferry, (no eurostar in those days) for 5 years for my summer holidays, admittedly in my younger days.
One tip that I would say is that if you are not pushed for time, you can overnight somewhere en route and look as it as part of the holiday.
We did various things such as overnight in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid etc or we occassionaly upgraded trains - travelled on a swish sleeper train called the talgo (no idea if that still exists) Benidom is a bit closer than the costa del sol but it may be worth considering overnighting somewhere.
My Mum and Dad went by coach from London to Salobrena in the south via Alicante/Murcia once and they were no spring chickens at the time, they sort of looked on it as a kind of adventure.
I suppose it all depends on budget, attitude to the travel, general health & if you want to get to resort as quickly as possible, or are happy to take your time.

For anybody who was following the earlier discussion on this thread, my friend and I are now all booked up to go to Berlin by train for 49€ each way from St Pancreas. More details at the thread below:
