Tarry,

Are you saying that your seats numbers can be booked 24 hours after making your booking? Also does it have to be done on line through "manage my booking" or can it be done via phoning BA?

I'm actually asking the above on behalf of friends who booked flights with BA to Thailand for Oct (booked about 3 month ago) Yesterday when they phoned to try and book their seat numbers, they were told that they could only book 2 weeks before their flight!!!

Online check in opens 24 hours before the flight departure when you can select seats free of charge. However you can choose your seats before this if you are willing to pay for them.

So if they are willing to pay for seats togeather (although not travelling until Oct) they can book them now? Also, off the top of your head would you happen to know what BA charge for seats togeather?

Thank you for your help ..... appreciated.

Regards,
Pat

Depends on the route but can in some cases be up to a year in advance - all subject to schedule changes..

I've never heard of being able to book specific seats for free on line until exactly 24 hours before flight. which means you are unable to book seats for the return flight at the same time. Go into 'Manage my Booking' and you will be shown the seat allocated with a plan of the plane and other seats available. You can either accept that allocated seat or choose another one. I think you can do it earlier if you are prepared to pay. I came back from Tunis last night and didn't have access to a computer so don't know if I could have booked my seat from there.

Yes you can choose you seat as soon as you book if you are prepared to pay.

Yes you could have chosen your return seats if you had had internet access.

Taking my first ever longhaul flight to St Lucia next February to renew our Wedding Vows for our silver wedding. Flying with BA from Gatwick, does anybody know what type of aircraft is used on this service?

barnio,

Please quote all your flight details, especially flight numbers when requesting aircraft information. This ensures we get the correct information for you as there are often several flights. I assume you're flying on the LGW-UVF-LGW (BA2159/8)? These are operated by Boeing 777-236/ER. Of all the Caribbean islands I've been to, St Lucia is my favourite, enjoy.

Stupid question time! I'm flying to JFK next month with BA and it's my first time with seatback entertainment (which I'm very sadly excited about!!) I looked today to see what films were going to be shown and it's got over 50 on there for that route next month.

Will we actually get the full choice of all those films or will there just be a smaller selection of them to choose from?

Thanks

Rachels79,

IFE is given on BA's website. You'll be able to choose what to watch from that selection for the relevant class.

Thanks, it was on the BA website that I got that list, I just didn't expect there to be quite so much choice! Wish I was flying back with them too, don't think that AA are as good as that unfortunately.

How many here are executive club members?
I have to say I like one recent change they have made- reward flight savers. Before now I have used my miles to spoil myself on long haul Club World or First class seats, as the taxes had gotten horrendous. It has certainly been well worth it to experience these classes. Now I am wondering whether I should refocus and go short haul. I like the fact that I can get from Aberdeen to Madrid for instance for 15000 miles plus £27 or to Prague for 9000 plus £27. As we have 160 000 miles, that makes a few short breaks!

I joined the BA exec. Club when I decided to change tesco points into Avios , we had previously saved up a years points and changed them into cosmos or virgin vouchers but they were only allowed against full brochure prices so you weren't saving so much and there was limits , so last time we went for Avios and I spent them on an upgrade when we go to Dubai in November we got business class for £1800 and 40000 Avios for both of us return . The BA price was about £4400 and emirates was £4600 so I'm quite happy with that outlay it was about £166 in tesco vouchers , we've got Avios left over and will keep adding on as the tesco vouchers come in and will do the same again next year , but will also look again at perhaps short haul with just a small payment if there is somewhere we fancy , we are flying with them to Cyprus in September and will collect some more points there , but you can always transfer some of your 160000 !!!! To me if you like , thank you very much Fiona
We have all this year booked up now and I'm starting to think of places for next year so I look at what points I have and start working out how to spend them , I also collect Hilton points and it don't take long to start earning a free holiday or a heavily subsidised one , I'm happy to give my custom to Hilton or BA if I'm going to get something back and will use them more often than not .

I've been an Executive Club member for many years now but as I live abroad don't really use BA for flights other than from Germany to the UK so I haven't acrued many miles with them and infact will probably allow the membership to lapse.
I belong to Star Alliance's Miles and More whose members include Lufthansa, Singapore and Thai, airlines that I use for many of my long haul flights and I've used the miles accrued for quite a few upgrades and flights over the previous 10years or so. Many of my short haul flights within Europe over the last few years have been paid for by using my miles.

I would say go ahead and treat yourself to a few short breaks Fiona, 160000 will as you say pay for quite a few.

Andy- I collect Hilton points too :) Judith- I would do the same as you if BA wasn't the most convenient airline for me. Its amazing how many folks don't accrue airmiles.
I know its going a bit OT but thats why I put it in general forum and not here.

You are correct about people not collecting miles. When we did a round the world flight in 2002 I was talking to someone in the Business lounge who was taking pretty much the same flights we were and she didn't belong to any of the mileage organisations. She was quite amazed when I told her where the miles for her flights could take her.

I also collect Hotel, car hire etc., miles and we also have some shops in Germany where we can accrue points that can be transferred into air miles.
