I wish I could offer more help on this but when I visited this week i found the whole thing very confusing for a non spanish speaker.
What I can say ids that there is a new system that is underground in the centre of Alicante near the indoor "mercado" if you know it.In there is a platform that says trams to Benidorm, wether this goes all the way without changing to a train is unclear,I know that the line runs out of Alicante to the coast and comes out at the station called La Marina - not to be confused with the marina in the middle of Alicante- at the end of the Alicante beach, this is where the train used to run from. There is a platform here saying Benidorm so I presume but am not sure that the tram runs all the way.Things are confused as there is another line here that runs to a place called AV Naciones which is a little way up the coast past San Juan and Albufereta.
Sorry I cant help more
Go to http://www.wikipedia.com type in alicate tram and see if you can make sense of things,I cant

From what I can make out of this, the tram line between Alicante and Benidorm was officially opened on the 2/6/08 and it runs between Mercado station and Benidorm station on line 1.
The approximate length of the route is one hour, has a frequency of 30 minutes and serves a total of five municipalities, Alicante, El Campello, La Vila Joiosa, Finestrat and Benidorm, but it will eventually serve Alicante, El Campelllo, La Vila Joiosa, Finestrat, Benidorm, Alfas del Pi, Altea, Calpe, Gata de Gorgos, Teulada, Benisa and Denia....and soon the university in Alicante and in the future, the airport.
This link is now out of date, they have obviously gone forward to Benidorm, passed Creueta, but there's some good photo's to click on showing the Linea 1 and Mercado station in Alicante.

At the moment, After Benidorm, you get the hourly deisel train to Denia
Sencillo means single (one way)
I+V mean Ida y Vuelta, return ( there and back)

Here's a map of Alicante, showing you where the Mercado station is and the "red line" or line 1 that now goes directly to Benidorm station.......also the point of where the airport bus stops.

I thought I read that Benidorm was getting a tram system, does anyone know about this?and where is it based? and where does it go to?.
hi could someone tell me about the trams ie where they go from in benidorm and where you can go on them we are off on the 18th august and would love plenty to do and to explore a bit we are staying at the levate lux apartments 4 adults ages 27 t0 55 and want a cracking fun filled holiday thankyou any suggestions would be appreciated whitecloud
hi could anyone tell me the cost for the train from benidorm to calpe also how long would this trip take.thanks
Used it last year but can't remember how long it took, could have been about 30/40 mins. Passes quick because of the scenery.
The new Plaza de los Luceros station has now been officially opened in Alicante city centre. This is an extension to the line which previously terminated at Mercado Central. With direct services from Benidorm, Denia, Calpe, etc, Plaza de los Luceros may be a more convenient station for those on city centre shopping trips.
We too are having our 50 anniversory/ and the boss 70 birthday...... Snowey...
I've never used the tram myself, so, I have asked....
Yes the tram goes all the way to Denia now, stopping at Calpe
Think it is line 9, every hour at 36 mins passed from Benidorm.

Congratulations on the 50th anniversary and the 70th milestone.

Cheers sanji its a lovey little tram, you should try it when you can. Looking forward to our favorite hotel the Benilux Park, its our 5th visit to it. Thanks again, and its nice to hear from you.. best regards Snowey....
Does anyone know if the tram from Benidorm is direct or do you have to change on route. The reason I ask is when it was the train line (before the tram) about 7/8 years ago it was direct. When they were introducing the tram you used to have to change from the tram to the train nearer Alicante, made a big mistake one time by not changing because we didn`t know and we had to go back to Benidorm.
David I can`t get the link to work.
You will find info and timetables for the tram service here, services between Alicante City & Benidorm are direct:

Unfortunately the service does not extend to the airport.
David
Thanks David I will have a look, shame they haven`t done a direct link from the airport.
