We've stayed in Salema, a lovely small resort. I think it had about 8 restaurants, 2 bars and 1 hotel. It's got a beautiful beach though and is a really relaxing place to stay.
Another nice quiet resort we've stayed in is Cabanas in the East near Tavira

Hoildayed in Lagos a couple of years ago and loved it. The town whislt packed with restaurants and shops for tourists still retains an authentic feel, stunning beaches and lovely walk along the river.
Only down side is its a long transfer from the airport and if you go out of the hot months can be windy. We were there in late july and the breezes were much needed!
Id love to try Alvor next but just cant find a 2 bed apartments near to the centre and beach.
