I can't comment on Marmaris as we don't go there but I have never experienced any problem in apartments taking food in, we have bought bags full of stuff for the room and have never had a comment made.

I hope you find somewhere nice to stay.

I wouldn't worry too much about it - I think the problem comes if you start to eat your own food around their pool. We regularly visit the supermarket for fresh bread, etc and take it back to our room on a morning.

I agree I've never heard of this in apartments. The whole idea of self-catering is that you have a choice or places to shop and bring your own food and drink back into your apartment

Hi YummyMummy, which apartments were these? I am wondering if it was because people were taking their own food/drinks round the pool?

Hi we always take food and drink from the supermarkets to our apartment,i started to feel bad about it as we were looked at everytime we came in with the supermarkets carriers.Last time we went i took my own cloth bags and put my shopping in there, that way nobody can see what youre carrying, you could have spent the day at the beach. We didnt get looked at then. :sun2

No a couple of biscuits and drinks in the room shouldn't cause any problems lol,we have had a couple of bad experiences in the past and have noticed that in a lot of places the families spending the most money and time round the pool/bar are the ones that the staff tend to fuss over but not all hotels are the same , we stayed in one place in olu Deniz that has glowing reviews on here and trip advisor but as we had a car and were out and about most days we didn't receive the best of service, that and the fact that on of our party was a fluent Turkish speaker and understood every word that was being said about us and other guests. The cherry on the cake was at 4 o'clock each day the afternoon cakes came out and the staff were told to push the cakes on everyone and tell the guests they were freshly homemade we knew this to be a lie as we had seen the cakes being delivered and didn't want to know at what over inflated prices they were being sold on at .On the other side I have just spent a week in a hotel in icmeler/marmaris and the apartments and staff were great very friendly not pushy and just happy to see you regardless if you spent 5 lire or 50 so don't worry I'm sure you will have a wonderful time

Really if you are self catering it shouldn't be a problem what you take into the rooms. Turkish families often cook full meals in their rooms every night. Most places don't like it if you take your own food and drink round the pool though, which is fair enough, if you want a drink and don't want to buy it from the bar you can always go back to your room for it.
