Can any member tell me the average cost of food and drink,
Many Thanks
Self Catering... Avoid the small supermarkets (Spar etc) dotted around town, other than for small purchases. Use the large Eroski supermarket at the roundabout as you enter town from the Pollensa Rd. Better still if you have a car use the supermarkets at the other end of the Pollensa Rd, just prior to Pollensa town.
Cost... most food very similar to UK costs. Wine, Beer, Spirits on average about 20% cheaper than the UK. Decent wholemeal bread is difficult to get from the supermarkets and very expensive from small bakeries, typically 2.5 Euros for a small loaf.
Eating out... Main course varies from 8 Euros upwards, bottle of wine at the table 10 Euros upwards. 2 courses with wine, water and coffee for 2 people on average around 40 Euros, but you can go way more expensive. In general avoid the restaurants on the front line, apart from the spectacular setting they are over-priced and over-rated. Best recommendation, the Celler La Parra on the Pollensa Rd, on the right as you leave the marina area 1/2 way between the 2 roundabouts.
Drinking in a bar... small beer 1.50 -> 2.5 Euros, large beer 4 -> 5 Euros, glass of wine 3 -> 4 Euros.

Stay is supposed to be the best restaurant in PP popular with Brits and the Spanish love it apparently, we didn't get it at all but may have been influenced by sitting next to people who smoked before, during and after their meal, with the smoke coming our way, so we left before dessert and coffee.
The rest of the holiday we ate in Pollenca Old Town, the best restaurants are in the side streets, generally they are cheaper than the main square and serve Mallorcan food.
The square itself whilst pretty and buzzing seems to have been taken over by the ubiquitous Italian restaurants that have taken over half the tourists resorts in the world.
We didn't have a bad meal all week, standards are high.
Enjoy it's a great place and you will no doubt have a lovely holiday
