A couple of years ago I stayed at the Leonardo Hotel in Berlin ... perhaps it was an opening offer, but the prices were very good and it was well placed .....

I suppose you've looked at the usual suspects ... TA, LateRooms, Trivago etc?

As regards your transfer, it will depend on which airline you're flying with ...

The new Berlin Brandenburg airport did not open on schedule. That's been put back for at least a few months, so most operators have been able to retain their slots.

The two airports are Schoenfeld (SXF) and Tegel (TXL). Both airports' details appear on this website http://www.berlin-airport.de/EN/index2.php.

For transfers from Schoenfel see http://www.berlin-airport.de/EN/ReisendeUndBesucher/AnUndAbreise/AnfahrtAuto/Uebersicht.html and from Tegel http://www.berlin-airport.de/EN/ReisendeUndBesucher/AnUndAbreise/AnfahrtBusUndBahn/TXL/OeffentlicheTXL.html

We got a special offer using buses and underground systems on a x-day basis, which might be useful. There was a VBB (the Berlin Bus Company) information and ticket point in the main terminal, but that was two or so years ago so it may have moved or been removed ... ask. There is an airport express service or a regular route bus from the airport to the centre which we used.

I'd suggest a bus transfer from Tegel but don't know from Schoenfeld. It's pretty quick but depends on traffic. There is a bus timetable on the site which will give exact timings.

Transfer is no problem at all. There a trains, subways and busses so you can reach any place in Berlin in reasonable time. Since almost everyone speaks english you can ask your way through but don't be offended by grumpy busdrivers :-D
