I agree cats... they are great days either way - can't beat diving off the top deck and swimming in the lovely cool sea :) Had a blast last year in the Bodrum area but got stung a bit as we bought it through the holiday rep - I think we paid around £30 - £35 each :yikes but we must have got our money's worth as it was A.I and we had loads to drink :cheers - this year I will not be buying anything off the rep and source my own excursions & trips. :cheers :sun2

Im going to Icmeler at the end of July & would love to do some excursions. Where would be the best place to find the people that organise them? Or maybe someone can recommend someone i should go too.

Many thanks :)

Bezzer,

There will be loads of places that do excursions, but I would tend to go with ICR or some other reputable agent. If you walk past the harbour almost every boat owner will try and get you on his/her boat but mainly shop around and haggle and you should get some good prices.

The main thing is I personally wouldn't go with the hotel rep as they add their own 'bit' on the price. I did this last year and as I spoke to people on the same trips, I found out they had paid a lot less due to not booking through the rep - Some people may prefer to spend the extra as it's easier but I like to get out and about on holiday so will hunt down some bargains (hopefully) lol. :) :sun2
By the way - we may bump into each other as that's when I'm going - July 24th - Aug 5th. What hotel are you staying at?

Cheers for the advice. I'm staying up in the woods at the Julian Forest Suites. Never been to Turkey before so looking forward to it.

Lets hope the weather is good for us :)

No probs Bezzer, I went to Turkey last year (Bodrum area) and loved it so much I decided to go back. I'd heard some bad reviews of the Turks but I found they were the nicest friendliest people I could meet. Generally I find that people who don't like Turkey have never actually ever been there - weird to dislike something before you've even tried it - well, more fool them I say.

And I'm sure the weather will be belting sunshine, I've been watching the weather reports on this forum - John does a daily weather forecast and much more reliable than tv or internet - it's straight from the horses mouth (so to speak)...

Have a great holiday mate. :cheers :sun2

I dont do boat trips now but there is a boat in Icmeler named the Panorama Princess which my friend uses and recommends.
I will find out where to book it.

Hi Parker,

For a quieter holiday in Turkey, you won't go far wrong in Turgetreis, not too crowded (at least it wasn't when I went in September last year (5th-19th) and there are a few excursions if you like sight seeing, Pamukkale and Ephesus is a must see. Also there are relaxing boat trips where you stop off for swims, usually including food and sometimes drink. The local village tour is also good fun and really opens your eyes to the 'real' Turkey.

As for places NOT to go if you like peace and quiet are places like Marmaris, Bodrum and the major 'touristy' places. I found Bodrum to be like Blackpool but with nice weather lol.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, it's a lovely place, glorious weather and all the locals we met are very nice people.

Hope this helps :) :cheers :sun2

Hi Parker, have a look at Kalkan and I would recommend the Hotel Nur. I will bring forward the Discussion on Kalkan Topic for you to peruse. If you don't like the weather too hot then you're best to be going out mid-May or beginning of September.

Icmeler is a great resort especially the old village area which is at the foot of the pine clad hills.
Its set on a big scenic bay and had plenty of lovely walks.
There is one along the seafront which goes all the way to Marmaris.
Although Marmaris is big and resort the Marina is stunning and a great place for an evening walk.
It is now the home port of Thomson Celebration cruise ship.

thank you jay, i am looking at that area just now xphx

Have a look at icmeleronline.com as there are lots of photos of the resort and hotels etc.
John Toohey has been posting some photos of Icmeler on here almost every day with the weather report.
Have a look at them ,they are stunning. :tup

I'm going to Icmeler this year, it's the Grand Aquarium Hotel which is on the outskirts of Icmeler which is approx 1 mile (20 mins) to the beach. I've heard reviews say it's a fairly quiet hotel but will have a better idea after I've been. I return first week of August so I'll post a review once I get back.

Im off to the Julian Forest Suites at the end of July, thats up in the pine forest & has really good reviews, reasonably priced too. I've not been before but read that Its a few mins away from the beach front so i think you'll get the best of both worlds. Quiet at the hotel but if you want to go down to the busy areas its about £1 on the dolmus.

If you not booking anytime soon I'll give you my opinion on it when i get back. But maybe someone here has been before & can give you more info.
