I too would rather have a holiday than replace furniture every couple of years and have now decided to make the most of it while we can still get reasonable Travel Insurance.
My husband likes to replace our cars every 3 years but we have now downsized and were lucky enough to get a 2 year old car which only had 54 miles on the clock last March which had been used at the headquarters in Reading.
We are fortunate enough to shop around for our groceries and I buy my meat from a butchers, fruit and veg from the greengrocers etc.I am a sucker for a bargain so try to avoid the middle aisle in the supermarkets where all the Bogof goods are :rofl I also shop in Aldi and Lidl as I like their produce.
We are off to Malta for a sightseeing holiday next month and 2 weeks after we come back off to Turkey for a relaxing holiday.
The only place in the world I regret not getting to see is Havana but all the other corners off the globe we have been to has been very enjoyable. :sun2

Many years ago I was made redundant. The children having reached the age when they didn't need me around so much I took the opportunity to have a 3½ month trip to Bangkok, Singapore, Australia and Hongkong. People sometimes ask if I don't regret spending all that money but I certainly don't,, as the money would have gone long ago but the memories will always remain.

Quite important, I do like to travel, and seemingly quite a chunk of my earnings goes on it. As I see it I work many hours, most weekends, and have limited leisure time so make the most of any time off I get and go away.

Hubby works from home so getting away is very important to us. He can't easily take time off at home as the mail, email and phone calls continue to come in. Fortunately his parents have a holiday home that we can escape to so getting away often doesn't cost us more than the petrol.

Now, after nearly 25 years of marriage and having a mortgage which is near finished, we are now in the position that we can now enjoy the better things in life .... holidays :tup Yes, we did have our holidays throughout the years ... odd weeks in family home in France (not my cup of tea) and the cheapy holidays to the Greek Islands (£120 SC) Then our son came along ... holidays took a backburner so to speak, and we would have the odd cheap break in the UK or week in Spain.

Son is now 18 years of age, landed himself a 5 year Engineering Apprenticeship which pays him good money, and he is now able to go off on his own travels to France and Mexico this year and America next year, leaving mum/dad to have better quality holidays, and do much needed home improvements:)
