What do you get from a holiday? Do you scrimp on other things to be able to go on them? We have a small second hand car which we got in October after running our last one to the ground just about. We also do things like put off decorating or buying furniture. However, it got to the stage where I didn't want anyone round as I didn't want to admit how long it was since we last redecorated anything So the redecorating and replacing of ancient furniture has finally started.
I love the relaxation part of a holiday but also love finding out about different cultures. I have gained so much from my holidays and have so many happy memories.
My husband likes to replace our cars every 3 years but we have now downsized and were lucky enough to get a 2 year old car which only had 54 miles on the clock last March which had been used at the headquarters in Reading.
We are fortunate enough to shop around for our groceries and I buy my meat from a butchers, fruit and veg from the greengrocers etc.I am a sucker for a bargain so try to avoid the middle aisle in the supermarkets where all the Bogof goods are I also shop in Aldi and Lidl as I like their produce.
We are off to Malta for a sightseeing holiday next month and 2 weeks after we come back off to Turkey for a relaxing holiday.
The only place in the world I regret not getting to see is Havana but all the other corners off the globe we have been to has been very enjoyable.
Many years ago I was made redundant. The children having reached the age when they didn't need me around so much I took the opportunity to have a 3½ month trip to Bangkok, Singapore, Australia and Hongkong. People sometimes ask if I don't regret spending all that money but I certainly don't,, as the money would have gone long ago but the memories will always remain.
We call it skiing Spending the Kids Inheritance!
Quite important, I do like to travel, and seemingly quite a chunk of my earnings goes on it. As I see it I work many hours, most weekends, and have limited leisure time so make the most of any time off I get and go away.
Hubby works from home so getting away is very important to us. He can't easily take time off at home as the mail, email and phone calls continue to come in. Fortunately his parents have a holiday home that we can escape to so getting away often doesn't cost us more than the petrol.
Son is now 18 years of age, landed himself a 5 year Engineering Apprenticeship which pays him good money, and he is now able to go off on his own travels to France and Mexico this year and America next year, leaving mum/dad to have better quality holidays, and do much needed home improvements:)
