I alway leave my kindle in the bag.
I'd keep it in my hand luggage and just ask the man on the scanning xray machine if it's ok to send through.
Just ask security if they need you to remove it for scanning separately.
the rules are computers [electronic books are computers] should be placed separately in the scanning tray
Sorry Wizard..but I queried at GTW security last year and was told that ereaders didn't need to be scanned seperately....
At Manchester recently we were asked to put laptops/tablets etc separately
When we went to Kenya last year we took the "full set" - we took our tablet and netbook out of their covers and put them in a bin on their own ..but it was then that I was told that the Kindle didn't need to be taken out!
I think it varies by airport. Flew from Manchester last year and as told no need to remove iPad, only Netbook. Flew from Blackpool a couple of weeks ago and iPad and tablet had to be removed for separate screening. They also confiscated a pair of hubbys nail clippers (under 6cm) that had just been through Manchester and Zurich the week before with no issue. They've been through Heathrow, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, KSA, Bahrain and various other places and never had a problem. Blackpool obviously didn't like them. I did tell him he should have pointed out they were under 6cm, but we didn't want to get a**sey with them
I did have to get a portable DVD player out though, even though not a computer and sandwiches wrapped in foil also needed to be taken out.
