After x number of years of marriage 'Sir' suddenly announced that he always wanted to visit Switzerland! This has never been mentioned before and I have no idea where to start researching!
He doesn't want winter sports, preferring to go in summer, but thinks he would like to try some of the alpine train journeys!
Any suggestions as to where to start would be much appreciated!
I've been to Switzerland many moons ago. Beautiful country both in summer and winter but, expensive.
Beautiful country but expensive. If it proves to be too expensive, there are trains up mountains on the French side around Chamonix.
or stay in Zermatt with a train ride up the Gornergrat and gaze at the Matterhorn.
Davos, Klosters, St.Moritz, Lucerne are all worth a visit. There are package holidays available on The Glacier Express http://www.swissholidayco.com/scenic-holidays/
The last time I went up the Jungfraubahn (railway) it cost over 200 swiss Francs and that was maybe 10 years ago so you would probably need to take out a mortgage to buy a ticket.
As others have said Switzerland is very expensive but a lovely country with awesome views.
Have had a quick look at some options and think he is going to have to decide if he wants to give up two holidays to afford one to do what he wants to do!
Although it's expensive in some respects, i.e. Food and accommodation. When we went Geneva we could fly easyjet and the flights were only £50 each which balanced out the accommodation costs. Downside is something like a large steak on a hot stone with french fries in a niceish restaurant was approx £40.
