The flights concerned are from Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Passengers cannot take on board devices larger than a normal mobile or smart phone- about 16cm long, 9.3cm wide and 1.5cm deep.
The US have also included the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
The ban will come into effect in the next few days- no specific date yet.
