Glynis has posted about voice activated bookings by Ryanair. Can you imagine the complaints we would get here. " I booked a fortnight in Paros but I find I am now going to France!"
Let's face it- voice recognition just does't work for many people. My OH has been trying out his new tablet and he gets all sorts of ridiculous answers when he asks questions. Its bad enough phoning a restaurant and making a booking to turn up and find some weird and wonderful interpretations of your name(I do have a slightly unusual one!)
After a recent software update I find that every time i pick up my mobile I activate the voice control. Yesterday I got so sick of my phone speaking to me I shouted shut the f!!! up. There was a few seconds of silence and then it said- ok, just let me know when you are ready to speak again. I think it obviously understood what I said
And now a good excuse to post one of the funniest sketches ever!
😁 You've made a valid point Fiona. Girona & Gerona's another one. 😉
Gerona is the name in Spanish (Castillian) and Girona is the name in Catalan, and both spellings seem interchangeable to tour operators, for a lovely town in Catalonia that is about 30 km from the airport that bears the name
But the question is will voice recognition soft ware recognise all the different ways I've heard non-Spanish/Catalan speakers pronounce Girona/Gerona? I can imagine lots of frustrated customers as the robotic voice keeps repeating back to them 'I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that - please say it again'.
