Beware booking long haul holiday hotels through Expedia.
I’ve stayed at Club Bentota, Aluthgama, Sri Lanka several times over a period of years, and really enjoyed it. I normally booked it via Kuoni, but found they no longer offered it this time.
But I know the hotel and the area, so I thought I’d do it myself using EXPEDIA for April this year. I went on line and found it available, with the usual silly marketing guff about “only six rooms left at this price”.
Something held me back from immediately giving them my credit card number and spending a couple of thousand pounds.
Instead I went to the hotels own website.
http://www.clubbentota.com/
And I found out why Kuoni no longer offer it.
It completely CLOSED DOWN in May 2017 and is not expected to re-open until May 2019 at the earliest.
But EXPEDIA were happy to book me and take my money for a trip there in April 2018.
Folk could end up losing money committed to airfares, other travel arrangements, parking, etc, etc,
Or – in the worst case – might find themselves with their family and suitcases in a strange country thousands of miles from home, with no accommodation.
I wrote to Expedia pointing out the error on their website. They completely ignored me.
IT IS STILL FOR SALE TODAY! I believe this is a pretty disgraceful way for Expedia to do business.
And potential customers should think twice before using them.
Phew, a close call. Thank goodness you had the foresight to check the hotel's website first 👍
