Colombia is aperfect choice for every tourist. Now I'm going to write a little preview about
the places that I've already discovered, without the necessity of completeness,
for a lifetime is not enough to get to know all the hidden miracles of this
diverse country - so it will be a kind of writing teaser J
The vast majorityof travellers arrive to the capital of Colombia, Bogotá – the first surprise
can occure here, if one expects to arrive at a poor old airport : the El Dorado
airport meets every need, being one of the largest and most modern airports of
Latin America, which is constantly being expanded.
People usuallyspend a few days in Bogotá, it’s worth the time, as there are plenty of sights
in the city and its surroundings. Throughout the year the temperature is around
20-21 degrees at day (thus we are 2600 meters above sea level), while when the
night falls the temperature decreases to 12-14 degrees. I would not like to
detail Bogotá’s attractions now – the entertainment options are infinite, we
can sample its great cuisine, the Candelaria district is truly interesting,
just like just like the view of the city from the mountains surrounding Bogota
from the East (Monserrate, Cerro de Guadalupe or La Calera).
South from Bogotáwe can take a trip to the biggest „páramo” in the world – Páramo de Sumapaz. What
is this „páramo”? The area also in the Andes, between the area still covered
with threes and the permanent snow line (from 2700 meters to 4000-5000 meters)
with special vegetation. Here you can go hiking in the altitude of 3000 meters
between wonderful vegetation and lagoons. All this about 1.5 hours by bus from
Bogota.
Also in the southis the Parque Chicaque, a large cloud forest - containing 200 different bird
species (about 1 hour from the capital.).
Crossing the3400-meter-high mountains of the East, we can get to one of the largest (590
meters) waterfall in South America, "La Chorrera" - along cloud
forests and a small waterfall at El Chiflón.
Leaving the cityin the Northern direction we can reach Zipaquirá's famous salt cathedral or one
of the beautiful colonial villages (Villa de Leyva, Mongui), possibly on Lake
Tota, 3000 meters high.
Going West inalmost 1 hour we can experience pleasant, warm climate (27 degrees at daytime, around La Vega) and wecan get to know all sorts of tropical products (papaya, maracuya, mango,
guayaba, avocado, banana, guanabana, coffee etc.).
It’s worthspending a few days in Bogota and its surrondings, right? J
Then its dependson our habitat where we continue on our way – to the North we can find Santander
and Boyacá, with miracles like (about 5-9 hours bus ride from Bogota) the place
barely known by tourists Quebrada las Gachas (Santander) or El Cocuy National
Park (PNN El Cocuy ) - which is interesting because of the "natural
jacuzzis" formed in the crystal clear rivers, while the latter awaits us
with more than a dozen peaks over 5,000 meters.
Those who are notinto excursions can travel from Bogota to the Caribbean by plane (there are a
lot of direct flights to Cartagena and Santa Martha every day, at a very good
price). Cartagena is Colombia’s most beautiful city, with a charming historic
downtown, with the Caribbean Sea and a temperature around 35 degrees throughout
the year. At 1.5 hour drive fromCartagena there are the "Islas del Rosario", which are tiny intact
islands in the sea.
The city SantaMarta is not like Cartagena (about 4 hours bus ride between them) but it has
amazing beaches - also, the Tayrona National Park, or "Ciudad
Perdido" ( "Lost City" – we are talking about a 5-day tour of
the jungle) is few kilometers from here, but we should let the pictures talk
for themselves J
Heading from Cartagenából/SantaMarta in the direction of Medellín, which is at the moment the „capital” of
startup companies in South America. Itsclimate is very pleasant, around 25-26 degrees throughout the year and the „paisak” (the name of the inhabitants of theregion) overcome the kindness of the basically very kind colombians.
From here ourjourney continues to the region of „Eje Cafetero” (6 hours by bus from Medellín)
– the „focuspoint” of the famous colombian coffee! The village of Salento and
Finlandia is beautiful, its climate is pleasant and its coffee plantations /
coffee can give a special experience.
Our road leads toCaliba, the colombian capital of salsa and parties. The fantastic island of San
Andrés (150 kilometers from the coast of Nicaragua) can be visited in a short 2-hour flight from Cali (orMedellin / Bogota).more infor yourcolombia.com
And so I couldexpand the list ... I did not even mention the Pacific coast (jungle, jungle
and jungle, intact shores and whales) or the Amazon or the Tatacoa desert - and
much more. Why? Because I haven’t visited them yet. Yet! And anyway in Colombia
miracles can be found at every kilometer, and sometimes even locals aren’t
aware of the existence of these. So that’s why I started like this: here every
tourist can find its calculations, and at a good price! J
From a person with a limited duration of vacation, I would say that it’s great when country has something to offer all year round.

They all said that Columbians were especially friendly people, and stressed how they were welcomed into homes for dinner etc. The friend of mine even spent Christmas with a Columbian family, after wandering the streets in Medellin alone on Christmas morning, a family insisted he spent the day celebrating with them.
