What is it with the trend of floor to ceiling glass walls for bathrooms in hotel bedrooms? When they first came in , I thought perhaps it was so that business people could have a bath and watch telly at the same time. Nowadays you get tvs built into the bathrooms so that is no longer a reason. I get that most have blinds and we have picked rooms with those. But you pull all the blinds down and the cleaner just opens them all up again. Can you really have a romantic getaway and watch your OH sitting on the toilet??
The most bizarre thing we have come across was in a room in Prague. The bathroom had opaque glass but I discovered, when my OH got up in the middle of the night, that when you turned the light on, the walls suddenly became transparent!!! I ended up going to the bathroom in the pitch dark. Lucky I remembered the positions of the bidet and the toilet!
Another trend is for everything to be remote controlled. We had an absolutely beautiful apartment in Gran Canaria but the windows, the security blinds, the lights, the air con, the sound system and tv all could only be controlled by remotes. But the room didn't have a guide as to which each remote was . The first evening, before going to bed, I had opened and closed shutters(not a quiet procedure), opened and closed various windows and put the tv on and off, before just deciding to go to sleep with the main light on!!
Perhaps its an age thing and young ones love glass walled bathrooms and of course they understand technology.
What was even more bizarre was finding myself in a room in Cuba - in an otherwise lovely albeit quirky, small hotel - where the 'bathroom' wasn't a room at all! It was only separated from the 'bedroom' by a half height partition wall with no other screening between two areas of what was essentially just one room. Given that I was on my own I didn't mind but again thought that you would need to be really close and used to a high level of intimacy with any room-mate to feel comfortable with that sort of set-up!
I've also recently read about an AI hotel in Majorca ,where rooms in an annex had gone "open plan" during a restoration-apparently there have been so many complaints that they are going to have to reinstate walls!
I just can't understand the need? Is it a "light & airy" "look at us aren't we modern? " No idea.
