Hi Folks
The Sol Hotel Balmoral in Calas De Majorca has only been bookable through Travel City Direct for the past few years. You can still book its sister hotels in the same resort through Travel City Direct.
Does anyone know the reason for Travel City Direct dropping the Hotel Balmoral this year ?. Our family stayed in the Balmoral in 2002 and had a good holiday and we can book the Hotel this year at a good rate though Alpharooms. I was just wondering was there any reason why Travel City Direct pulled out.
I used to work there, I think there was a contractual dispute.
It is on sale this year through JMC/Thomas Cook

I am booking with the Hotel direct so could you let me know the approx. cost of a taxi from airport to the Hotel
Thanks Robert
See my website:
http://www.sol2001.co.uk
Taxi from the airport to Calas de Mallorca was €55 last time i did it (2002) - i would allow €65.
A hire car shouldn't be too much more (than a taxi each way), thats how i normally did the journey, then you also have the car for the rest of the week.
TIP:- For a family of four the excursions can work out cheaper if you hire a car, and buy tickets from reception. This was certainly true last year (2004) for the Western Waterpark - Driver goes free, pay for the other adult, and voucher for free child entry.
Transfers can be booked through the hotel using Transunion coaches. Call the hotel reception for more details, Rafa and the others speak good english and should be able to help you.

We have booked direct with the hotel this year for the first 2 weeks in October and flying to Majorca with Easy Jet. Is there family rooms in the hotel or are they all the same size, as we have our 16 year old son with us and I remember the rooms being quite small. As there was 4 in our group last time we booked 2 rooms.
Regards

I notice there still is no review of this hotel on this site. We stayed 3 years ago and it was great, and are heading back this year.
I would be great to hear your review on it Celine.
Robert.
Hi we stayed at this hotel entertainment was good also food was nice, down fall was no air cond in rooms and the pool was dirty all the time. the main pool i thought was dangerous has the steps going into the pool was a good foot away from the edge meaningyou had to really strenght down before your foot rested onto the first step. I didnt think much of the area when we were there there was a lot of mugging, hotel itself was nice and spacious entertaintment was good and like i say food was good but nothing to do in resort at all.
Anyone due to stay in the Hotel Balmoral in Callas De Mallorca this year or know of anyone who has stayed this season. Interested to see how things are going this season now that Travel City Direct have pulled out.
has anyone stayed here? Is it ok for a 9 year old and her mum? I am looking everywhere for something £300 for half board in july not having much joy I staeyd at Sol jamaica last year loved it she did but no air con in room and no tv put me off booking again...any recs for majorca would be greatfully recieved.
I have merged your question with other posts about the sol Balmoral
If you read the ones above they may help you, particularly Robins as he used to work there

I can thoroughly reccomend the Chihuahuas as its got a lovely freeform pool, and a rectangle pool as well. Food was brilliant but as mentioned about the balmoral, no air condition in the rooms.
I have piccys under calas de mallorca.on this site, there is a view of the Balmoral from the chihuahuas also a review of the hotel.

Thanks I ineed air con and tv and kids things so am now looking at Trinidad or jamaica sol
Does anyone know much about this hotel..??Heading there with the family towards the end of may...Is it a good area for kids..i:e plenty for them to do..??
Me and my husband stayed here three years ago and thought it was great. The food was of a high standard and kids were always being entertained by staff. The main pool at the hotel is nice but crowded but if you go down a flight of steps there is another pool which has a playground and never seemed to get packed. We went at the end of August and would definitely go back again. The town is a five/ten minute walk away but there is not a lot to do there.Hope this helps.
We stayed 4 years ago and it was great. It is a Sol holel and has 2 sister hotels close by. Travel City Direct practically all the bookings for this hotel up until the end of the 2004 season. They did not contract it last season and the hotel seemed to have a drop in bookings.
I have merged the thread with a previous one on the Balmoral, so it may be easier to read the earlier posts
I am going to this hotel in October half term holidays I was looking for some feedback about this hotel good or bad I am over 40 is there much to do in the resort for someone of my age
Most of the hotels in the resort are A/I hotels and this tends to make the pubs less busy. I read reports on this site before about the resort starting to close up mid October.
Go with an open mind and I am sure you will enjoy it but it is not Magaluf.
Not stayed there for a while but Sol hotels are usually at the top end regarding quality. I do remember that the food was very good and it was best not to rush into the restaurant when they first opened but to wait an hour then go down. Not only was it less crowded and most of the kids had gone the initial buffet would have been removed and replaced with fresh cooked dishes.
