Yes, you can get a water taxi from Corfu to Paxos. But if you are flying on a Monday, which is the main Corfu-UK flight day, I would suggest you book it well in advance, because they are bound to be busy. Here's a link for Paxos Express sea taxis, but there are other companies and if you ask around as soon as you arrive, you should be ok.

We've travelled by sea taxi several times and it's much quicker than the bigger boats.

We're on our 12th visit to Paxos in September and, although it has become a little more popular over the years we've been going there, it's still pretty quiet and laid back compared to many Greek islands and still just as gob-smackingly beautiful as ever :)

Thanks for the information. We have now booked to go in September. Just found out we will be there during the Summer music festival. Hope that doesn't mean it will be too crowded.

Yes, I only found out that the festival was on after we'd booked for that week. However, it used to be in July some years ago, which is our usual time to go to Paxos and I think it seems to attract more locals than extra tourists.

BTW, I've read today about a new seaplane service between Corfu and Paxos that is said to cut the journey time down to 7 minutes!

The operator's website is still pretty vague about when the service will be fully up and running, but maybe by September, who knows....

Hi

Has anyone been to Paxos this year? I am staying in Lakka the 1st 2 weeks of September and was wondering if anyone could let me know about eating/drinking prices. Also, is there anywhere on the Island we should really visit? I stayed there a few years ago but didn't do anything except eat, drink and sleep!! We only visited Gaios and Loggos once and had one trip to Antipaxos. Should we hire a little boat? Are they easy to operate?!

Thanks

Hi, I stayed at lakka previously and there can be no finer place to chill out, relax and catch up on the sleep.
Just on the harbour front is Routsis travel, (see http://www.routsis-holidays.com/ ) they can hire you a boat, a tank full of petrol will allow you to circumnavigate the island and cross to Antipaxos twice. They are easy to operate and George and Yannis will not hire you the boat if you are not going to get the benefit of the hire with the weather etc.
They set me up with a guy called Costas who runs a trip round the island with a demijohn of Ouzo in his fishing boat. 6 Brits and two very uncommunicative italians who did not want to get involved. The Brits drunk him dry - what a day !!
Costas naturally told us all the best places to visit in the trip, which we visited in the small boat a 35hp if I remember correctly.
Lots of little isolated bays you can visit and some caves on the west coast. If you go to Antipaxos go to the taverna on top of the hill above the beach, heck of a climb, but the food and the view are excellent.

Hi!
i ve been to paxos many times! it is a lovely island. there are many places to see.

to eat..my boyfriend and i had dinners at various places, but the one we loved, is a family taverna, called Dodos. it is at Gaios and its not in the square, you just take the harbour road and u reach a statue. you ll definately a label there showing you where exactly it is.

for coffee and drinks there are many nice places. There are two by the harbour of gaios which we liked. if i remember properly, there are by the port police.

at lakka there is another cafe bar, called Akis....and is by the sea.

there are two by the sea bar at loggos too.

you definately have to go to a place, which its cafe bar ta Magazia...where you see the sunset.

There is also a Disco at the port of Gaios.

Some of the beaches we loved was at Anti-Paxos. :)
all the beaches are nice. and the water is crystal clear.

you can also go to the museum, that is on gaios, by the harbour.

ohhhhh...i m looking forward to go back again! i m going there next week! for 2 weeks!

can't wait! :)
i hope i helped you!

enjoy your holidays on paxos.

Where in Gaios or Lakka are there rooms for rent/smallhotels that have not been pre-booked by package tourists. Does the excursion boat to Parga allow one way travel? Is there a ferry connection to the south to Kefalonia or Patras or Kilini?

I don't think the Parga trip officially allows one-way travel, but they can't make you get back on once you're there can they;-)

Ferries - Kefalonia: don't think you can go direct, you would have to get the hydrofoil to Corfu and then another one to Kef. Patras: yes several a day in high season coming from Italy - look at http://www.gtpnet.com for schedules. Kilini: don't think so.

Further to the excellent answer above you can call Routsis travel on (+30) 26620-31807, 26620-31162 or 26620-31722. The are based in Lakka, and are excellent for advice and availability of local rooms...

Thanks for all them links. It's a shame the Italy - Patra ferries don't call into the other Ionion islands, seems only Kefalonia in the very hi-season.

Yes, it is a pity the big Italian ferries don't stop at more islands, but from Kefalonia it's fairly easy to go on to Zante and Ithaca. There's also the new seaplane service http://www.airsealines.com/htmlindex.htm which still doesn't seem to have its scheduled service up and running yet, but hopefully by next summer will be connecting more islands. We saw the plane fly past on one of its sightseeing trips when we were on Paxos a few weeks ago, so they seem to be working on it.

My 17yr old son is going here next Monday with his mate. It's his first time abroad on his own although his mate has been to the island a couple of times before.
What is there to do will he be bored?
is it safe?
Is there an ATM machine?
How much spending money should he take for 2 weeks SC, he's not a big drinker (honestly).
This has been landed on me at short notice as his mates mum has booked and paid for them(i wish it was me) without consulting me first.
I now need to convince myself that he will be fine any help doing this would be much appreciated.

First the bad news....Paxos is expensive - we spent about £750 for a couple in May last year. We didn't drink much (cocktails about 7 euros a throw), ate well on an evening, cake & coffee for brekkies, picnic lunch.

The good news - its a beautiful island and very safe...there are a couple of nightclubs open in high season, but otherwise it's a case of sit with a drink and watch the world go by. There are watersports at Lakka (ringos, water skiing).

Might be a bit quiet for a 17 year old...but I'm sure he'll love it.

Thanks for the info, it's put my mind at rest.
I guess I am going to have to top up his spending money so he has a good time.

Oh and there's an ATM in Lakka and several in Gaios.

Make sure he takes his snorkelling ger!
