Hi
I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this place and the quality of this hotel ?
If so could you please just say if its ok or not and the best restaurants aroudn there as I was thinking of going there for 3 days on my fortnight in goa.
Thanks
I have not stayed in this hotel but it has been getting quite good reports, it is in the centre of candolim where there are too many good restaurants to mention, check out the best restaurants thread, It is quite a central location and there are many shops, and in my opinion the best beach, not as crowded as baga.
Didn't actually stay there, but ate there a couple of times. The place itself looks spotless. The owner, staff and food were all excellent. Go for it!!
Dont personally know the Xavier but there is a web site http://www.gaocom.com/hotel/xaviar and this as some information regarding the resort, looks very nice and the rates appear to be very reasonable .
Hope this is of some help
Jayne

we have stayed at xaviers, and we loved it, the rooms are quite small and a little basic but kept quite clean - the staff are really really nice and make you very welcome - they will do anything to keep you happy, talking about happy they have a happy hour 6 -7pm for cocktails and you must ask for a gazza special cos they are brilliant. they also do nice fish and chips (if you like that sort of thing) and also roast beef and yorkshire pudding. Yes i would go for it ... small and friendly
Good restaurant with kids menu
Excellent cheers, have reserved a room for 3 nights now nad canny wait to get to India to start it all off :0)
Has anyone stayed at the Xavier Beach Resort in Candolim, ? If they have what is it like ?
I have eaten there many times but never stayed there. Hotel seems very pleasant and lovely food. 200 Metres to beach.
I've read a few reviews about this place and they all say it's a few minutes from the beach and the same from the main road. Can anyone tell me whereabouts it is in Candolim i.e. nearer to Calangute; Candolim centre or nearer to the fort ? their website doesn't say.
Xaviers beach resort is just a few minutes from the beach and if I am right it is more well known as a restaurant than a place to lay your head. Cant say I ever noticed any rooms but as the restaurant is all on the ground floor and gardens that would account for it It used to be in the rough guide but isn't in the latest try their web site
cheers Lyn
Xaviers is on the beach road that brings you to the beach near the stern of The River Princess. It is south Candolim, more Sequieram actually(sorry about the spelling) From the main road that brings you in from Panjim it's almost directly across down the side of Casa Sea Shell.
My girlfriend & I spent 5 months in India (Nov 06 - Apr 07), and on and off we spent a good 2-3 months here. Xavier's was one of the first guesthouses in the holiday brochures about 15 years ago. The accommodation is fairly similar now as it was then and is a homely guesthouse, with new owners Prem and Nutan always ready to help and advise - they helped organise an excellent personal driver for our 2 week trip in northern India and a good hotel to use in Delhi. Rooms 7-10 at the front have balconies and a better outlook than the rear of the building. There are plans to build a pool and add more rooms at the back, though this has been on the cards for 2 years now and has been held up by red tape and more red tape.
The boys are hard-working and god knows how Arun gets the strength to clean the rooms in the morning as well as being night watchman outside. Rates are very reasonable and includes juice, tea or coffee and toast for breakfast.
We'd recommend staying here, it's in a quiet spot on the way towards the beach and Prem and Nutan have maintained the same friendly spirit as Xavier's original owners.

would love to hear how you got on- on a new thread of course!
the trip report will be posted in the near future...need to condense 5 months into an easy read!

22!!!
On our last but one trip we re-visited thinking the same people would be in charge.Wrong.The place was very quiet and we had ordered before we realised it had changed hands.
Long story short food rubbish did not pay for my meal did not return.
Looks like Xavier retired.
Hope the place has improved.Sad how one bad meal can completely change your perception and ruin some great memories.
Regards
Papa
