:) Hi La,
First of all let me say "welcome" to the site, you will find lots of useful information on here.
We stayed in the Lui Beach a few years ago now, but we did pop up to the hotel when we were in Candolin this January and it hadn't changed much.
It is still a fairly small hotel at the far end of Candolim up near the Taj Holiday Village and the Fort Aguada Hotel, there are a few bars and restuarants around and the hotel has a small bar area at the side of the pool, there use to be a small sitting area on top of the bar but i didn't notice it perhaps because it wasn't lit up.
If you walk into Candolim you will pass numerous other bars and restaurants and the majority of them are very good. :glynis
You get to the beach by walking up the lane which runs at the side of the hotel pass a few house and you are there.
The hotel is also just up the road from the "Kingfisher" villa, which is owned by the man who owns the brewery were they brew the local drink with the same name.
If i remember right the best room where in the main building, above the reception and over looking the pool, they were basic but the boys kept them very clean, fresh towels and lined daily (dont know if that was because i left the dirty ones in a pile on the floor or what).
Some people who stayed in one of the annex buildings did complain of ants and other insects in the room and those at the front of the complex near the end of the lane did get some road noise early in the morning.
Having said all of that we did enjoy our stay there, we tend to prefer the smaller hotels, you get to know some of your fellow holiday makers better. :ghug
Hope this helps
Jayne :wave

Hi La
We stayed at Lui beach last March, its a very friendly hotel but very basic you can have air conditioned room at 300 rupees a day extra. Fresh bed linen and towels everyday. As stated b4 its at the far end of Candolim just passed the Kingfisher Villa and next to the Don Hill Hotel Its a 50 rupee taxi ride into Candolim (Dont pay anymore) It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the main beach road from there. but about 5 to 10 minutes to nearest beach. If you need any info at all do not hesitate to ask. it also has a lovely small pool and bar and the lads who work there are fantastic. If was offered it on a cheap basis again i would not hesitate.

Thanks so much Jayne and Paul, it seems so far away till our holiday yet I'm so excited and want to know all i can about the place. Both posts were really helpful, its great being able to get advice from people who have been there rather than just relying on brochures. :sun We are taking our 18 yr old son and hoping he will also get a chance to make friends out there too. it seems as though everybody on here seems to go between jan and april am I the only daft one counting down 37 weeks :?:

My advice to you would be to get onto your travel agent and change your hotel, we went for 4 weeks and could only stick it for 3 weeks, we paid out our own pocket to stay at another hotel for the last week,

The main concern we had about the hotel was cleanliness, our fridge was mouldy inside and out, 3 times we asked for it to be cleaned and ended up buying cleaning agents and cleaning it ourselves,

The air conditioning units all leak, we could not sit on our balcony as it was constantly soaking with leaking water, (this is where legionaire disease starts).

when we arrived everyone was getting bitten at the tables, we found out that another air-conditining unit was leaking out and spilling on the huge umberella, and as a result a huge pile of stagnent water was trapped in the umberella cuasing mosquitos to breed in it, but after pointing this out it was cleaned, but before we left the leak was not sorted and the water was building up again

the table cloths for the tables were only changed every 2 weeks the spillage from drinks food etc, on the table cloth kept attracting flies, and you just could not eat for all the flies

the tea pots you get your tea or coffee in were absolutley disgusting, it was like the were never cleaned inside, you get a very basic breakfast of tea and toast, you can get tea or a glass of juice, but the juice is out of a tin,(this only happened in lui beach hotel out side it was always fresh juice you got), you can also order other eggs etc for breakfast but you pay for it

A word of warning for anything you pay for, we only found out on our 3rd week thier is a 10% charge added to your bills, what the charge is for no one seems to know,

if its a service charge the barmen cleaners etc have never seen it, it seems to be the owners extra income, we paid our bills nightly and we always got them back to front with the days total, and when we turned them over one night thats when we noticed the 10%

thier was one night before we left the hotel, we got left in darkness, the barmen closed the bar at 11pm, which was normal but put all the lights out and went to bed (on the bar floor), I was not happy with this

Rats seem to be a problem in the hotel at night, one guest had a rat run over his feet on the balcony, the rooms could also do with a lick of paint, the manager is at pains to point out guests were in India and should expect this standards, this is not my first trip to India and I know the standards, cleanliness costs nothing

The Hotel should also consider that holiday makers have standards, the hotel charges for you fridge( the mould is free), and air conditioning (which leaks and is so noisey its like sleeping with a helicopter in your room, the funny bit was when new guests arrived it was like fawlty towers each guest refusing the room they had and trying to change to another),
On a plus note the staff are like all Goans friendly and cheerful, but my advice would be on my expieriance change hotel, and enjoy the local people

WARNING... our rep from airtours was useless, she advised us the sea was ok to go into up to your waist, DO NOT DO THIS, the sea has changed from we were thier 5 years ago, it is one of the most treachrous beaches we have ever been to, I had to rescue my wife and she was black and blue on her arms with me trying to pull her out

Hi Dundee
so sorry to hear of your experience at the Lui Beach my wife an I were there about 18 months ago and though basic was very clean and rooms cleaned with fresh linen and towels every day. Sounds like they have let there standards drop. Mind you as i remember the A/C was noisey and did leak . Yes the sea is very treacherous at Candolim the reps should know this as many tourists have lost their lives on that part of the coast swimming is definately not an option when the sea is rough.

Hi Kate
I have posted before on Lui Beach We stayed there roughly 18 months ago although the rooms were basic they were cleaned everyday with fresh towels the pool area was small but the pool very clean. Breakfast just toast with jam and tea or coffee but could have eggs if you paid extra. The lads who worked there always had a smile and treated us very well. Its position is up past the Kingfisher Villa its next to the Don Hill Hotel. They do have air conditioned rooms but again thats extra and as i remember so is the fridge. If you want any more info dont be afraid to get in touch. :)

Can anyone help?

We've been offered a great deal for both of the above hotels & can't decide.

I do know where there both situated but would appreciate info on the hotels themselves. The Lui Beach is £50 cheaper but thats over 4 wks (so peanuts). I seem to think that I had read somewhere that Lui Beach wasn't to good.

I have read all reviews & can't decide.

All help appreciated.

Thanks
AJ
